Going to be playing my first 40k game in a couple weeks. Going to get walked through a game with my friend who is getting into necrons. I have accumulated a fairly sizable Ork force. I have 2 Ork sets from AoBR, 1 box of nobz and 1 box of boyz. I also have about 60 other AoBR boyz I bought off ebay as well as 30 shoota arms to convert some to shootas. I am going to be playing this first game as foot slogging it. I can add a little more to my army and am trying to figure out what to do. My plan is to pick up maybe another box of nobz and a painboy and run a nobz mob-if I did what is the best way to run a mob with which combination of items and armor. And maybe pick up a KFF Big Mek. Or I can get 2 loota/burna boxes make 8 lootas and convert the other 2 to KFF Meks with Burnas

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

If this is your first game I wouldn't try anything fancy. Just use some of the slugga/choppas Nobs with a Bosspole. Learning to use an entire Nob squad completely diversified for wound allocation is a bit advanced and is gunna slow your game play down to a crawl when they get into combat. Just throw some models out there and learn the rules first, worry about tactics and list building later.

What G. Chaos said. Keep it simple at first. Nob gear allocation depends on how many nobz you have, how they are fielded (footslogging, on a bike, in a transport) etc. As you will find out a Big Mek is quite a bit larger than the mek in the loota box (who is a bit weedy actually. But that is up to you and your personal taste!

Here's how I kit out my Nob squads;

Power Klaw (PK), Boss Pole (BP)
PK
Waagh! Banner
Big Choppa
Twin-linked Shoota
Combi-Scorcha
Combi-Rokkit
BP
Nuthin'
Pain Boy (sometimes with Grot Orderly)

This is pretty cheap - relatively speaking. Only the PK Nobs need to get multiple pieces of gear. If you want a third Klaw, add it to the Waagh Banner guy. Five Black Reach Nobs and one box of the multi-part plastic will just about get it done. I will admit that I play Nob squads only in Apocalypse.

Cybork is a good upgrade.

Unless you want to play some variation of a biker list, you should think about at least 90 boyz. Shoota boyz are genarally favored for the walking armies. Slugga boys are okay in vehicles.

As far as what's next, a KFF Mek is good in most lists. Kans make a good unit. Three units of Kans make a good basis for a list. A few Deffkoptas can be useful, if properly equipped. That meas Buzzsawa and Rokkits.

take thier advise your best bet is to keep the army simple and the game play simple the first time around. It will already be tough enough trying to get together the basics.

Keep it simple but allow yourself some luck by including either several PKs or/and a waargh banner. Both are worth their points.
