Master Tormentor
|
With her creation Belphagor at her side, Bethayne stalks the battlefields of Immoren to bring death and destruction to the enemies of Everblight. Bethayne can meld with Belphagor, donning the mighty warbeast’s flesh like an enormous suit of scaled armor. The two become one, acting in concert as a single individual, mingling a warlock’s sorcerous power with the brutal onslaught of a warbeast’s fury.

Aww...her hips aren't as pronounced as in the artwork.
*cough*
I mean, mighty fine warbeast there. Yessir.
If anyone is wondering, the chest cavity of the warbeast is meant to be hollow, as in
the game rules Bethayne physically melds with Belphagor and essentially becomes
a single model.

Personally a little disappointed it's only 2 models instead of 3 (BethBelph), but then again, it's only $35 this way.

So the $70 answer to your question there...
Anyway, replacing the whole model can mean small amount of shenaniganary. Or is that chicanery?

Agreed with everything above.
I still like the quality of it/ the new releases in general for Legion...as I'm not a fan of too many of their models.
I would say some repositioning of the Blighted Lass is needed.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

For someone who has a very deep dislike of PP and their crappy sculpting I really like this model - enought to actually buy it for painting. The one thing I will say is that is does seem to be a big mash up of existing models - hello 'nids and demonettes. That being said - I really do like this and will probably get it.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games. |

Thats a very clever move from PP, I personally would have a hard time picking just one of the two options since both are very diferent and cool.

Technically, you aren't supposed to pick one. It shifts back and forth between the two over the course of the game, as Bethayne dons and doffs Belphagor.

Looks kinda too static when they are merged in terms of looks.
Much reposing needed IMO. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ruleswise she's like a suedo-Rhan in terms of stacking magic.

Does this come with all the Biomorphs and maybe a lash whip or bone swords or two? maybe an extended carapace.
Just as I was starting to warm to PP and their minis, this comes along.
It's just lame, and very uninspired, unless the sculpter was looking for inspiration from Lenton.
A nid with armour is all I can say.

Wow! Several more ounces of 'meh'tal from PP.
Big beasty is rather static looking (though given the apparently interchangable bit, I guess this is kind of explicable).
But the wifey on her own? Terrible. Might be the angle, but the pose is devoid of motion to my eyes.
As for the combo? BIG HUGZ does not a good model make I'm afraid.

Yeah, because Nids are all inspired, I mean, clearly they don't look anything like Giger's Aliens, right?
Face it, everyone's pulling from the same material. Whether's it's Giger, Heinlein, Tolkien, or others.
This girl makes me regret trading away my Legion army.

The girl is pretty generic looking, but hot damn, Belphagor looks awesome. Totally need it for a Demon Prince/Chaos Spawn conversion of some sort. The armour ties it nicely in with my Word Bearer stuff.

What's with the `Nid comments? The Only thing Belphagore has going for him that looks like a Tyranid is overlapping armor plates on his tail, and that's such a generic thing that's hardly a surprise it would look like `Nid tails, which are also super generic.
I've joked before about Legion stuff looking like `Nids, mostly in the Carnivians being Carnifexes, but really, other than the same basic, generic body shape, they don't share any of the key unique details. It's like saying the Cygnar is stealing from the Imperial Guard because they're both human and have guns.

Erm.....little army things on it's chest....go have a look at the Tyrant from the Tyranid range.
But regardless of what it may or may not look like, it's still distinctly not quite average. The head on the beasty looks particularly daft. Like Tom out of Tom and Jerry having been hit on the bonce by a hammer.

Ok those models are just beyond cool; the fact that you can switch them (I'm assuming it's supposed to be on the fly, hence the magnet) is a concept that really works with the Everblight army.
Oh, and for the comments regarding 'Nids, I'm for one happy that Everblight looks different enough to have their own look, while being similar enough for 'Nid players to steal bits from.

Personally, and this is only a personal opinion that I am sharing, If my first opinion of this mini was 'thats a nid' then in my eyes then the sculpter has failed to convey something unique with a generic style.
Bulky over lapping plates and ridges? is that really the only way to do things?
Maybe I have not been as thoroughly indoctrinated into PP's universe as I have been with GW in the past but first looks and second glances do count.

I can tell Russian infantry from US infantry. As I can see that Cygnar look different from the IG, looking different from Pig Iron and EM-4 troopers.
