Ok a quick background, the model in question is the bloodthirster pewter model. I got it a few years ago when just doing my painting and modelling side of the hobby.

However, alot of the parts keep falling off when its handeled.
Its not a terrible model at all in fact im quite happy with it, but I am currently thinking of buying the same model to repaint as a gaming piece.
I do not want to strip it or repaint it as i want a reminder of my 1st model i was truly happy with.

The joins will be pinned with ONLY one end glue as to make deassembly to carry it easily and hopefully the paint job will be much better taking into account of what i have learned during my Tau army.

Just looking to dakka for opinions really.

Sorry if this is the wrong area. (Seemed the only fitting place)

Yeah, go for it. I do that all the time. You won't regret it. I got a new Metal DP for gaming because I love the other one so much (Hate the plastic DP though. I wish it would die.)

Lol didnt even know there was a metal DP or is that the pack that doesnt come with wings?? Anyway i prefer plastic as to metal so a plastic DP it is lol.
Even tho i prefer plastic the odd metal model isnt that bad, especially when its an HQ sort of piece and id class the bloodthirster as an HQ piece.

The metal DP is this one:

With no wings, as you can see. It's a m,uch better model than the new one, IMO. Much more detail. It feels more like an HQ than the new one.

The new one looks sort of comical, which I dislike.

But anyway. Good luck with that. Try a two part epoxy on the guy this time. It'll stick forever! JB quik works pretty well.

I had a feeling that was the one you were on about. The plastic DP makes more sence to me as iv got a list set up so it has wings and would really like to go with a wysiwyg army.
Think a simple pinning would do well for my bloodthirster once i get a decent drill bit.

I dunno about that.... JB quik is almost like magic. It NEVER comes apart! But pinning works as well.

Good luck!

Go for a Plastic DP and convert it into a Bloodthirster by giving it horns from the plastic Bloodletter champion (or Bloodcrusher. it's all essentially the same), giving it the bare-chest and shoulder loadout, and giving it the axe weapon from the sprue. It will fit in with the current plastic Khorne minis much better than the pewter Thirster, wont fall apart as easily, and cost 1/3 less than the thirster (I'm actually planning to do this with my WHFB Daemon Army).

And I have to agree, the Metal DP model is still my fav from the chaos range. something about the majesty of it and how it just looms over lesser infantry models with it's terrifying scowl that just screams lord of chaos. and the best part is, unless you plan on giving it wings, the base model does technically fit the WYSIWYG definition, as all other upgrades are psychic abilities or marks (and generally other things that usually cant be replicated on a model anyways with WYSIWYG).

That's a good idea, I have to say. I don't think it would be as tall as the bloodthirster though....But a bloodcrusher head would be really awesome!

Graham Mcneill posts on dakka? No way!

This is actually what gave me the idea in the first place (and no doubt alot of other converters) http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1300048a_2010-07-13_4_873x627.jpg

It really fits in with the newer bloodletters and bloodcrushers, just like the old ones did with the pewter Thirster. And I think it's the same size as the current Thirster, if not actually bigger. The pewter thirster actually has a fairly small body (in no small part due to the tiny legs it has) so the height issue wont be that big.

Also, the qoute in the sig is something I found Gwar hilariously said during an arguement. I dont know if they actually read anything here, but I have spoken with a good number of higher up GW employees before.

Thanks for the comments, the DP conversion would look as if it would work well in my army, although I really love the bloodthirster model and would like it to be part of my army.

Lol in the end it's all up to you. Gaming purposes the DP is a superior choice, but I personally own two Thirsters purely because I love the model (there's no way in hell I'm ever fielding 2 Thirsters in anything under 2000, and I almost never play 2000 point games).

I will rebuy models that I like a lot and want to try idea with. I think the new plastic kits are amazing, but I know your question is about individual models specifically. So yes, absolutely. There's an old metal fig of a Space Marine sergeant that I have multiple copies of and I have cut him up into so many conversions that I doubt I actually have the "original" model represented anywhere. That's one example of this. I think having more than one of the same model opens possibilities for new projects in the future.
