Just heard from a friend that some people on here were wondering what the massive nid was and wondering what its called, I know this would be rather late (I dont get on forums often) but to anyone that wants to know about the beast I have all the answers. So feal free to ask any questions and i'll do what I can to answer.

I was going to guess it's an attempt at a Dominatrix, but it's got no breeding chambers.

yup, it is a tyranid dominatrix. Though there is no fluff that ive read yet that states it has breeding chambers, the rider is surrounded by sacs filled with yellow eggs, its a little hard to see in this pic. Once i find my digital camera i'll try to take a few shots when I can

edit - totally misread your post.

I can now see the egg sacs, but they're tiny. Maybe good for Gaunts and Genetstealers, but Dominatrix are basically Norn Queens for the ground. They spawn all breeds of Tyranid creatures, with the exception of bio titans. I can't see a Carnifex coming out of one of those little eggs.

Not that I'm belittling your model. For a scratch built model, that's very impressive. I want to try my hand at making a Dominatrix myself. It's just not the direction I would have gone. But hey, that's the beauty of Tyranids - every Hive Fleet is different, so differing creatures is normal. That's a beastly model.

From what ive read the rider would be the next step higher in the cast system from the hive tyrant, but still under the norn queen. As well it has been eluted to in fluff that nids do have larval forms that eventually grow into the beast you see on the battle field, so the larvae would need time eating and growing to become hormagaunts or even longer to become a carnifex etc.

The rider is old-fluff. I'd honestly go with the description in the 5th edition codex, in which it talks about the Dominatrix itself being the supreme battlefield synaptic link and master tactician. The old fluff with the rider seems to go back to the old days with Zoats.

You've obviously never played starcraft before

I gotta say I like the pincers on the model, could these confer any special rules?

thanks, and it was painted in a week cause i forgot games day was that weekend. so basically after work ide paint until the wee hours of the night, and painting something that big is a lil hard. When I started construction the new Nid codex wasnt out yet. I just wish there was official rules so I dont have to ask permission to use the rule sheet I made for it. I have alot of stuff to work on so i will probably do a paint touch up, just not any time soon.
