I know I know what primer is, but what is it? Is it just thinner acrylic paint? I got an airbrush and want to prime my models. I've been looking for vallejo model air grey primer but I cannot find it anywhere. So I picked up some Tamiya Flat Black and Flat White Acrylic paint, will this work is I dillute it or do a need a product that specifically says "primer"?

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

It's paint with a bit of "tooth" on it for paint to grab it better. All primer is paint, but not all paint is primer - go out and get a can of Krylon flat black from your hardware store for 5 bucks. Paint will stick to your models much better, and will be less likely to chip.

Or the flat black from walmart for $.98
Works just as good as the Krylon, but a few bucks less per can.

Primer is a bit different in paint- it adheres better to smooth surfaces (in our case pewter and plastic) and gives the paint a surface to stick to more evenly.
Flat sprays work like a primer quite well, since the the 'flat' surface has more texture to it compared to a gloss. Texture is the 'tooth' the Brother SRM mentions.

Thanks guys I've tried both. The Krylon was a bit powdery with the White I tried. Will they work good on metal models too?

Yeah, it'll work on metal just as well.
Spray paint turns out powdery if you spray in humidity, don't shake the can up enough, or are too far away from the model.

Yup. That's why expect it to be powdery if you live in the Philippines. If you get to make it to not powdery in here, then you have god-like powers.
