I was part of the generation where Pokemon took off, TCG, video games, TV show, etc.
So I figured I'd ask around dakka, what do everyone think of Pokemon, is it cool/lame, etc.
Well having some fun with photoshop, I offer other members of dakka and pokemon fans to let me pokeball them.
Here's a pic of myself tossing up a pokeball.

Spoiler:
If you're up-to-date on Pokemon, or don't know about them quick reference.
Pokemon are from space, and well there are ones that are seemingly powerful.
But did you know they now implied that Pokemon have created the universe and therefore Gods?
Yes, this children's hobby has turned into a xeno based form of religion.
I think that's just crazy.

I used to think it was good, obviously when I was younger, would happily watch the TV show and play the games. Then it got too repetitive (more so than it already was) around about when they finished the Jhoto league. From then on in it just seemed to be going on for money rather than any new ideas that seemed worthwhile.
In some ways I wish they'd draw a line under it for a few years, maybe 5-10, then reboot the franchaise starting again from the begining but where all the areas of their world are known about. I found the 'sudden' revelation that there were more areas never mentioned before just a little too convinient.
Thats my 2 cents anyway
"To be truely evil you must acknowledge the right thing to do in a situation, and then do completely the oposite"
My mother never let me buy the cards or the games (she likened it to dog fighting), so like any kid who had been smothered by their loving parents best intentions I bought a copy of fire red when I was in my mid teens (and had procured a gameboy advance... you have no idea how hard it was to get one) since forbidden fruit is the sweetest I played it through twice and haven’t touched it since.
I never got into it, I think I was just a year or two too old when it all really took off though there were plenty of other kids in my High School who liked it just fine.
I do really love the idea of Psiduck though.

/agree
The original 151 was the best. As soon as more got made they didn't always put the originals in them.
Actually the games have fairly steadily increased in quality as the versions have gone up. The newer ones have more features, better interfaces, more balanced gameplay, competitive depth, and strategic variety. Not to mention they're just flat out more polished, Missingno was amusing but really shouldn't have been there.
About the only place they fail is in originality, as the first games were very fresh. The main game leans a bit too much on the established formula (though it's not as bad an offender as say, Mega Man) and could stand to take some risks.

Huh?
There is some video on youtube, of some Pokemon TCG player, that'd make probably even the biggest of nerds say "And I thought I was a nerd!"
I've tried search to for this beedrill guy, but I'm not to sure which one is the one you're talking about. May I have a link please?
On-Topic: I joined in the fad late, back when I was in elementary school. When I picked up my copy of Silver and my first Gameboy, everyone else fell out of the fad.
So guess what? With only me, my brothers, and one friend only playing these games I got hooked on them and for ten years I still haven't stopped playing them (The actual ones, not spin-offs ).

You and me both. I still take geekish pride in my level 78 Kingler. What a billy bad-ass he is.

YES. WE ARE LEGION.
I know how hard is to explain pokemon. It was our lives. Everywhere you looked in our rooms: pokemon. What we did at school:pokemon. Pokemon brought us together, and encouraged us to better ourselves.
I consider myself an absolute pokemon master. Ask me a random video game question about RYB.
What does pidgeotto learn at level 14? Whirlwind
Where do you get your first ultra ball? Underground trail thing between cerulean and vermillon
Where do you find the trainer that trades you a jinx? The seafoam islands
What level does pikachu learn thunderbolt? 25
What's weedle's pokedex number? 13
Blahblahblah. Anyway, yes. I love pokemon, and it saddens me that newer generations don't enjoy pokemon as much as we do.

Pretty good, until the DS came out and therefore D/P/Pl

Explain step by the step the glitch for multiplying items in your inventory. [25 pts]
Go die . Something about turning off the game while trading? I never used it myself, as I was far too young to get into hacking at seven years of age.

Because I didn't? I've been playing pokemon yellow for the last few weeks, so I have a lot of general knowledge on my mind.

I got my first pokemon game at the age of 12. it was my first ever gb game. since then i have got one from every generation as well as the spin offs. I think that people are bised toward the generation they grew up with. For me it was gen 3 with the mudkip eg. Im very much looking ford to gen 5 coming out in march-may.
avantgarde wrote:I don't remember either ; something about surfing along the right coast of Cinnabar island and Missingno is all I can recall.
I think I was in 4th grade at the time and getting unlimited master balls and rare candies blew my mind.
About the same here. I remember the one guy I knew who had an action replay (...5th grade, I think). He charged 5.00$ for unlimited masterballs and 10$ for 999 rare candies :3. I think I wasted like 30 dollars on him
Good times...Of course My pokemon mind was completely ruined, and now I rarely play a game without BSing through the elite four with my trusty old level 100 Rayquaza
Oh yea, Ive lost many hours of my life playing pokemon games. Hell my wife got hooked on the gamecube shadow Colosseum one as well. I also agree the original pokemon where far better. I still think my fav is either geodude (always have one) or machop (always have one) They just kick ass IMO
I started with Blue and generally go with the water starter in each one. Yet they've all pretty much been disappointing besides Blastoise, so I always trade in a Squirtle to replace the starter. Also I tend not to use any legendaries.
That's funny Samus, as the Missingno glitch let you duplicate the 6th item in your bag. Not to forget the secret of Missingno, it evolves into Kangaskharn with Sky Attack, Surf and Surf if I remember correctly.
Talk to the guy who shows you how to catch Pokemon, then fly to Cinibar Island, next surf up and down on the right edge of the island, it will duplicate the 6th item when you fight Missingno if I remember correctly; it's been a long while since I've done it so I'm going by memory, I can't play the originals anymore they make my eyes bleed now :(
