It is now 10.30, half an hour ago I decided to create a new army using what ever is in my bitz box, lo and behold I find my 5 year old (or more) space marines and the leftover dwarfs from my squat units. Then it clicks, Space Dwarfs in power armour. Not traditional squats as such, but I shall be making a stunty army in space, and who else in the 40k world has runes on their weapons, silly beards, bad attitudes and a drinking problem, yup space wolves. The seed was sown.
So in the last 30 minutes, I have gathered together enough bitz to cover my room, and enough troops and eclectic stuff to make 500points of space wolves.
So here's the basics of what I'm working with:
The bare Bones, pre-everything.
My soon to be wolf scouts, I intend to use slayers to represent the mark of the Wulfen throughout the army.
The Thunderwolf or Thunderbird if you prefer. I know its not the best idea ever but I'm trying to tie up the Hugin, Mugin, Viking, dwarf connection thing going on in my head and I reckoned it represented the increased movement, rending, toughness and strength quite well.
Oh and one more thing, just to make it interesting, I intend to have it all converted and painted within the week, if not sooner, yet not spend all my time on it... Lets see how this goes.
Gimmie your support and I'll see if I can get this done!

You have my support. DWARFS* FTW!!!
I naturally love anthing small.
Well, I am 4'9" 1/2. That 1/2 makes a lot of difference when you don't have many to spare.
*Or dwarves if you go tolkien.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid. |

Righto first update, slow process it is too made the test model for the power armoured Space Dwarves, a good head shorter then the average human even though they are in power armour. Right time to get on with the slow process of doing the rest of them... Someone send me the Jaws of the World Wolf, I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Yup its going to be a double post, well here are the long fangs all converted 85points down! Got a bit more work done on the Thunderbird (wolf) Cavalry. Figured out the basing for the bird and pinned him and built a ccw, backpack and shoulders for the rider.
Next up I think I will tackle the wolf scouts and the Thunderbird Cavalry riders legs, I'm getting fed up of cutting my thumb shortening the legs, but first beer and toast. Good hobby fuel. Any pointers before I assault the next lot? Automatically Appended Next Post: Yup that's right triple post, it may not be the cool thing to do but hey its late. I have now finished converting the Wolf scouts and have finally added the rider to the Thunderbird. All in all it is now 3.30 and I now only have one more unit to finish, then the undercoating and painting.
Well enough babble, here's the pics:
Wolf Scouts - 2 Power Weapons (great weapons) and Mark of the Wulfen (Slayer)
Check out the pimp hand head shot at the back, I couldn't resist.
Thunderbird Cavalry - CCW and bolt pistol (still to be added on back)
Righto any comments, tips, advice, ideas and criticism all welcomed, cheers for the feedback so far!

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

I think they look too much marines. Just add some modifications to those armours and they'll look much better and more original.

Love your space stunties! Maybe you should make them less space marineish as Xenon suggests but not too fantasy-dwarfish either (as I've seen many do). I would drop the whole eagle-thing though, maybe cybertech-enhanced boars?

Long slow progress today, managed to make headway on the Bloodclaws and get the others undercoated. Not much of an update but progress all the same, greenstuffing times now.
On the point of their aesthetics, I am aware of how much they look like marines, but that was kind of the point. I wanted to use the marine army from my shelf of shame with my spare dwarf bits to make, tiny space wolves. I generally have contempt for straight marine armies so this is a little poke at them, reverse true-scaling if you will.
I intend to greenstuff some chunkier armour and some more pelts on the bloodclaws than I did on the Long fangs. The aim for the project is not to be original or artsy, but more to turn my bunch of crap into a playable and funny converted army as fast as possible.

Nice job on these! I did something very similar a while back...converted a whole bunch of them...even did a tutorial...but then I couldn't decide how to paint them and sold them off.
They would probably have fitted your theme, seeing as they were call 'Runic Marines' and had runes all over them...
Anyway...I digress. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing the finished product!

Actually, under a recent review of the proper political correctness guidelines, we're no longer advised to say 'Dwarfs'. The new term is 'Peoples of Restricted Growth'.

Well a slow update this time, pub, club and 18 hours of work got in the way a bit, but painting has begun!
I have finally finished greenstuffing the blood claws and they are ready for some basing and undercoating.
I got a little bit of the painting started on the other guys, using graveyard earth for the armour, mechrite red for the pads and details and blazing orange for a spot colour on the lenses and wulfen. Looking to add lots of weathered metallics, hope I don't over do it as I haven't really planned this paint job.
I also managed to convert a little chooser of the slain for the rune priest, which may come in useful later on.
Anyhoo pic time:-
I'd love to have a look at that tutorial mate, do you have linkage? Also I suppose I should be more politically correct with these tiny men, they appear to have big axes!
Keep the suggestions coming, they are far from done yet and my prospective deadline is getting nearer!

Here's a link to my now departed 'Runic Marines':

My tutorial used to be on Dysartes forums...but they appear to have vanished...I'll see if I can publish the tutorial on line somewhere and send you a link at some point...

Just a quick update, not much development in the last few days, bit of paint here bit of wash there, I think I may have been over ambitious aiming to get them done so quickly, I had forgotten how slow a painter I am. Its all a bit PIP at the moment with lots of work to be done but anhyoo here's some pics.
Rune priest and chooser of the slain
Wolf Scouts
Long Fangs
Thunderbird/wolf Cavalry
Undercoated Blood Claws
Inso those Runic Marienes are so mindblowingly good, it nearly made me give up and rethink what I was doing, much respect right there, loving the Grymm by the way!
Cheers for the comments so far keep them coming.
