Oh, here and there.

I'm in the finalization phase of a pirate miniature game I've developed.

It's skirmish level, with about 12 models on a ship that also moves. The game's focus is on close brawls on the high sea, with magic and other unique factions of my own fantasy world.

Then I noticed Warhammer Historical's Legends of the High Seas. It's skirmish level with a ship and everything.

Makes me sad, because I thought i was the first to develop a pirate game with a ship and crew building and the like. But I was not. :(

Should I continue making my game? I flipped through some of their rules, and mine are a bit different, but there are similarities which cannot be denied.

Anyway. I guess i just wanted to rant. Dozens of hours were spent on this game and I feel like it was wasted, a bit.

Then again... there are dozens of miscellaneous sci-fi wargames. Maybe mine can coexist with LotHS...

NEED COMMISSION ARTWORK FOR MY MINIATURE GAME! PM ME FOR DETAILS. That is all.

If your enjoying the creation process then continue. If you were thinking it was going to be something unique that would make you a pile of cash, then you might want to reconsider.

Basic rule...somewhere, sometime its all been done before. At this point there is pretty much no concept totally new.

I think it could be pretty cool, though id dump the moving ship idea...skirmish level combat in the pirate days wouldnt have happened until the ships where tethered to each other and boarding had begun.

Also, modular minis, like the plastic SM minis, would be best. Customization without a big bunch of cutting and such will make the game much more attractive.

As far as rules similarities...aim for making your either faster play or more detailed/slower. I think a quick play rule set would be cool. Something you can play in say 30-45 minutes...a lunch time game. It would also allow a couple games to be played in an evening, allowing for on the spot rematches, or for a group with several players to all get in a game on the same night.

Id get in on a quick play pirate game with cool multi part minis.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)
10/15mm mecha
Song of Blades & Heroes
Blackwater Gulch
X wing
Open to other games too

I think it's a great idea, I'd certainly play a pirate game, and have several friends who would get in on it too.

Please, please, please, if you are writing rules for your game don't settle for GW's "drink two beers and see if you still care about the problem" style of rules writing.

Sounds intriguing. What kind of board size is it and is there only 1 ship per player?
