Hi all. Following a good balanced list I use from a while right now; I'm very happy with but I found just a little problem, buildings. In here we often use a little bit too much of scenic buildings.. HQ - Captain - Relic Blade - SS - Bike. 180 HQ - Libby - Bike. 135 EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125 EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125 TR - 8x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 310 TR - 8x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 310 TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/Melta Bombs - 2x Plasmaguns - MM Attack Bike. 225 TR - 5x Scouts - 4x Sniper - ML - 5x Camo Cloack. 100 HV - Thunderfire Cannon. 100 HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120 HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120 Tot. 1850 So what's happen? I found that the 80% of the list work very well and, most of all, work with a good synergy. I'm talking about the bikers and the tanks+walkers supports shooting from the back line. I just founded a little crappy the combo Scouts+Thunderfire. So, wich unit do you'll advice me to take with these 200 points? for both Competitive and friendly environment? Something that, especially, will be able to manage with troops hidden in buildings? Right now the only template shooting attack I have is a psyonic power from the Libby.. Obviously I was considering Assault Marines, Jump packed Veterans, even Speeders or some other bike, etc.. I'm not so worried about Obj. games, combat squadding the bikes and turboing later in the game I've well managed 'til now, but of course, another one valid unit will be willingly accepted. So, again, 200 points for complete an all-comers list but even 335 (not considering the Libby) for friendly games vs non-psyonics. I was thinking about something like this: 5x Bikers - Serg. w/Combi-Flamer - 2x Flamers - HB Attack Bike. 200 I'm just scared about losing movement efficiency (with all these Bikes all around..) and of course by the price of the models. Besides I'll gain another one valid unit that will easily toast a 2+floors building. Just a little present in kill games I suspect.. I'm open to every idea. Thank You in avance, Ivan.

Hi Mercer. Alwais used The Avenger + Null Zone. Almost never used Null Zone honeslty but in the same time I found the Libby good enough this way. Basically I just need him to block psychic powers and he done it well. Returning OT I haven't really appreciated the scouts+thunderfire combo. The scouts basically doesn't anything but this isn't the badiest thing. The Thunderfire doesn't hurt as I was hoping. At least a lonely one. And, in the same time, I've seen a serious lack of Assaulters on foot or jump packed that can hunt the hiding sheeps... and they're objectives at the third floor too. obviously.. So, basically 2 solutions in my mind: 1) another little bikers sq specialized in flaming (to be joined by the Libby), 5x with combi-flamer, 2x flamers and HB Attack bike. 200 2) find some point here and there and take a classic 10x Assault sq. power-weapon+combi-flamer+2xflamers. What's your opinion? Or even an alternative suggestion? I was considering also to find 10 points and take 3x HF+MM Land Speeders, funny as toasters but not easy contenders.

Problem: Buildings.
Solution: Shoot them dead.
Other than that, there’s not much else if you want to stay to theme.

Captain is good and Libby is good.
Dreadnoughts and Pred are great support.
Thunderfire is so-so, kinda kills the theme to include static elements IMO.
As for the scouts…at least they can outflank should they need to, but again, static…though can make the most out of fortified ruins the TFC gives y ou.
It feels light on bikes for 1850 IMO.
Scouts are not too tough and the bikers are not as much as I would personally like to run at that level.
As you suggest, I would second, more bikes.
For me though, besides shooting them dead, I do run with Terminators…. Though they are slogging…I’ve been playing around with a 9 man ground pounder walk up and hopefully get there, but they are my last option for it.

The problem, you know.. is that in my flgclub we're not so "pro" in deciding what si what etc etc.. or, more precisely, we don't mind especially.. In anycase I think I'll gonna go with another toasty bike unit. HQ - Captain - Relic Blade - SS - Bike. 180 HQ - Libby - Bike. 135 EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125 EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125 TR - 8x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 310 TR - 8x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 310 TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/Melta Bombs - 2x Plasmaguns - MM Attack Bike. 225 (<- with the Captain) TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/Combi-Flamer - 2x Flamers - HB Attack Bike. 200 (<- with the Libby) HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120 HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120 Tot. 1850 The toasty unit, with the Libby, will be able to shoot 4 template in just one turn. And from this setup.. Growing up to 2000p I'm undecided on these 2 options: - 3x MM Attack Bikes. 150 (to be 100% fluffy) - 2x Land Speeders HF+MM (so.. so..) - 5x Devastator - 4x ML. 150 Ok, the Dev are absolutely static, that's sure, but just on a little hill they can give an important imput with a funny 4+ cover save and the ML is maybe the more versatile/cheaper weapon available. Otherwise, maybe less effective, 3 MM attack bike will work realy good vs mech armys givin' me a third melta sq. OR, again, a couple of HF+MM Land Speeder + 10 points somewhere, just because they fit well with the background fluff. One time again I'm undecided but I need to grow up the list for end November.

I'd go for more krak firepower by adding 2 typhoons... They can do wonder if guarded well... I' do thi in 1850 with that 200pts you were talking about... Listen to mercer on this one...

Well, you get 3 advantages with typhoons over a dev squad.
1) Target Saturation - more units for the opponent to be concerned with.
2) mobility. Fits your theme and also is helpful to not be static.
3) Target Selecton. Two units can split fire, your dev squad are not long fangs, and therefore cannot.
The advantages of a dev squad.
1) Easier to get cover saves by hiding in ruins.
2) 30 points cheaper.
3) One shot at WS 5.

Some good point for sure. Now the problem is where to find these 30 points.. Eventually dropping one Dread for 3 Typhoons? 1995 points totally and so melta bombs on the combi-flamer Serg.? Otherwise I absolutely don't want to drop any bike. Automatically Appended Next Post: Due to the points unavailables (these 30points in fact), I think I'll gonna take 2 Land Speeders HF+MM and Hellfire Rounds on the Captain to grow from 1850 to 2000. I know they're not exactly the same thing in comparison of a Typhoon but they fit well with the background, can help toasting buildings and add these 2 MM for the first/second turn of armors hunting. Not bad in anycase for essentially a fun list but I think in the same time still competitive, don't you?

@Mercer, I can't open the link from here, I will take a look at it this evening. It's a very good list, no doubth. Just a problem: the real total is 2130 points. Finally i think that there's no way to integrate the 2 Typhons with to completed Bikes sq. (8x+AB). The only possibility will be eventually reduce the number of bikers, having 4 5x+AB teams but I don't like at all the idea.. @pdawg517 Of course we've considere a Honour Guard, 2 problems: - is a NON-scoring unit, really a shame. - the very minimom deceent setup will be not less than 355 points. tooooooooo much really..

I played a very similar Bike List to yours, and I did pretty well with it. I didn't run the Librarian at 1850 points though, because I wanted more points for other units. I ran the list at a tournament, and came in third overall with it, so it definitely fared well enough as far as being competitive, and taking into account all of the other miscellaneous scores that are given at a tournament that aren't dependent on how it's played on the table (ie - Comp Score, Paint job/presentation, sportsmanship), I thought it did great.
I played a variation of it at Ard Boyz this year as well, and came in 5th with it. In that list, I ran a Librarian on a Bike, and the results I got were about as much I had expected. I made a few tactical errors, which unfortunately cost me one big loss, but I was able to maintain the list and it's progress in the next 2 rounds.
Later on, I experimented with different variations of the list, and found that bikes tend to do better as a "Shooty List" or a "Gun line Army" instead. I reduced the number of bikes in each squad to the minimum of 5, and loaded them all with Special Weapons, including the Sgt with the same Combi version that the squad was carrying. I then added Vulkan He'stan to the list, who IMHO, made the list far more competitive with it's current setting. The only down side to this though, was that I would have to forfeit the Librarian. Not having Psychic Powers could be a hindrance, but I'm hoping the difference is made up for with He'stan's Chapter Tactics.
Just to give you an idea of what I played this past year, here's what my list broken down at 1850 points. Hope it helps!

Bike Squad: 8 Bikes, 1 Attack Bike w/HB, 1 Flamer, 1 Meltagun, 1 Power Fist 295 Points

The little units plenty of special weapons is a possibility I've well considered.
Not seriously tested honestly, just a couple of time in totally non competitive games, but I love big units.
Wounds allocation will become fastly a problem with 7 wounds/4special weapons units..
From now, 'til end november I'll try the 2x HF/MM LS 2000 list because I don't have other models, however you adviced me something really interesting by adding Vulkan.

Hmmm it did when I added it up, but more than likely I haven't changed the fields in Excel to say what's in what unit - minus 5 Bikers and you'll be at the right level then.

It's funny.
One week, MSU bikers are the rage.
Now here, lots of full unit of bikers lovin'.
It's wonderful to see a single 'type' of list have multiple variations and still do well.
I think the Biker list in the SMurf codex is the gem of it now.
