Can a SM player buy vehicles from the Dedicated Transport without assign them to a specifical troop?

IE:

In a list like that one will I be able to buy some Razorback without anyone supposed to be assigned to?

HQ - Captain - Relic Blade - SS - Bike. 180
HQ - Libby (The Avenger + Null Zone) - Bike. 135
EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125
EL - Dreadnought - double TL AC. 125
TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 235
TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/PF - 2x Meltaguns - MM Attack Bike. 235
TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/Plasma Pistol - 2x Plasmaguns - MM Attack Bike. 235 (<-- with the Captain)
TR - 5x Bikers - Serg. w/no options - 2x Flamers - HB Attack Bike. 190 (<-- with the Libby)
HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120
HV - Predator - AC/LCs. 120
Tot. 1700, 150 free points

And if YES, how should we consider those vehicles? As Troop choices that can't claim obj or just Dedicated Transports that doesn't use any slot in the organisation chart?

Specific units buy DTs so yes the DTs must be assigned to that unit. Now deploying with that unit or empty is another thing.

The word "dedicated" might help you on this issue

You have to "buy" the dedicated transport for a specific unit. However, that unit does not have to deploy in that transport.

The only limitation placed on dedicated transports is that no other unit other than the unit it was bought for may start the game transported inside it.

You can, for example, deploy transport and unit seperately, then in the first turn of the game embark another unit on the transport.

Edit: Having just looked at your list, are there actually any of your units which can buy dedicated transports? I ask as I don't play SM and don't have their codex - the captain and the librarian may be able to, but I'm pretty sure that bikes can't buy dedicated transports

I gived the bikers list just because there are no eligible units to use a Razorback.

So, generally, Dedicated Transports can't be buyed if not assigned to a specifical unit.

Right?

See my edit - since none of those units can even purchase dedicated transports, you can't buy dedicated transports (here I am assuming that this is the case as I say I don't play SM but I would imagine that bikers can't buy dedicated transport).

I think you're taking "dedicated" too literally. Any unit that is eligible to buy a "dedicated transport" can buy one. However, at any time after deployment the transport is free to be used however you wish. The dedicated part means that only the unit that you bought the transport with can start the game deployed in that transport. So, you can't buy a razorback using a Tac Squad's option and then put a devastator squad in it during deployment. You can however start the game with the dev squad within 2" of the razorback and then on the first turn of the game load them in and use it as their transport.

I think the problem is that the list he has posted does not have any units that can actually buy dedicated transports (specifically Razorbacks) as far as I am aware.

I was addressing the more general issue of use of the dedicated transports rather than his specific list. For all I know the list he gave is because he didn't know the rule in the proper context so he opted out of taking a unit that could take a transport.

Oooor his question was whether he could just by the DTs without taking a squad for it....

No, you cannot.

I know, I was not debating anything you said regards dedicated transports.

They ued to be listed among the troops section, pre 5th ed, right? but in the 5th ed codexes they have a section of their own, so unless your force org chart say you have some options for "dedicated transport" they only come with other units.

Think of dedicated transports as wargear.

Kinda. They were typically on the same page as troop choices. But, they were in their own special box with a different heading, so were intended to not be "troops".

Actually the dreadnoughts are able to buy Drop Pods. While it's not razorbacks it is worth mentioning.

Also if you throw in a command squad on bikes, there is no rule stating they lose the ability to purchase razorbacks. They obviously can't deploy inside it anymore, but they can buy one.

The OP wants to fill out another 150 pts, so he could take 2x Drop Pods with Death Wind launchers and maybe have points for a HB razorback.
