Does Tau Commander's bodyguard gives an extra unit point to score ?

Think this thread should be in YMDC.

To answer your question, I think it counts as a kill point if it has its own entry in the codex - OR if it specifically states that they are wotth a kill point.

So take a SM COmmand squad. YOu buy it to attach to a Captain or Chaplain. Collectively, that unit is worth 2 kill points.

I have to disagree there, units are worth kill points and the definition of unit (P3) has nothing to do with their entries in the codex.

In this case they are worth 2KP, one for the commander and one for the bodyguard, as they are not required to form a single unit.

You don't have to attach a command squad to anything. That's why it's worth a kill point - it's an entirely separate unit.

It uses the rules for retinues. The commander is 1 KP while the bodyguard(s) are 1 KP. The only bonus is the commander can't be singled out in melee, which doesn't matter for tau really, you just lose melee lol.

Tau Bodyguards are retinues. They are purchased to 'accompany' the Commander, which was the 4th edition wording used pretty consistently for all retinue units.

This is also clarified in the Tau FAQ.

However, they still count as 2 kill points, because the Annihilation rules specify that characters and their retinues count as a kill point each.
