Firing my Hellgun into a Fire Warrior's head....

Ive noticed in a couple of codex's that humanity has been pushed to near extinction on more than one occasion. The Chaos where the most successful during the Horus Heresy driving the imperium to Holy Terra. The Tyranid come next with leaving the Imperium with only 4 left before Inquisitor Kryptman initiated the Tyranic wars with the orks. Now, im not totally sure what the Chaos do to a a conquered planet but it cant be pretty. However though, I do know what the Tyranids do. Gathering the very atmosphere of a subjected planet with oceans, plant life, etc. So how does the imperium recover from the devastating losses if they cannot regain their planets back?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
any solutions or answers? Im very curious to how the Imperium recovers with no planets to live on.

I think you're underestimating the actual size of the imperium, thousands of solar systems, with millions if not more of planets, no way that they could have been pushed back to having just four planets (maybe four planets in a subsector at most, but whats a few hundred or so planets in an Empire that has millions)

The IoM can survive damn near anything providing it has enough time. Like Tyranids they adapt, it's kind of odd. They can burn planets for time and force millions to fight to the death to buy time. Also he IoM waxes and wanes some times they will have a crusade which will capture dozens if not hunreds of planets and other times they will lose hundreds of planets to an attack.

Yes, I probably misunderstood the text. I thought it said Leviathan pushed until only 4 remained i will probably read it again make sure I didn't over look anything else. Because the imperium does have millions of planets in its control. I always thought that the Tyranid couldn't have done all that in such a short amount of time. thanks for the posts.

Often GW has no sense of scale.
Imperium isn't really on the brink of extinction,Segmentum Solar and Pacifius are considered relativly peaceful by the Imperial standard and consider the fact that even the Imperium doesn't know the size of it's vast military force.

Also there was an (in fluff) report saying that the troops in the segmentum where the 'nids attacked (can't remmeber which one) needs to be increased by 500% which is ridiculous considering the amount of people there already

Now consider the fact that Hive World has 100-500 billion people and that there are 32k+ of them all over the Imperium and that gives you the scale of Tyranid thread.
Also 500% thing is from Tyranid Codex 4th edition and it was reffering to Ultima segemtum and maybe Solar, but I'll need to reread that Codex

This was based on the theory that the current Tyranid fleets were just tendrils of a truly massive Tyranid fleet, kind of like Genestealers guiding one of the hive fleets that have invaded before. In that case I agree 100% that they would have to do that much fortifying if not more, I believe that was the minimum was it not?

It was the minimu recomended and i think it was based on the size difference between the first few fleets.

yes that would make sense, the more the galaxy would resist annihilation the more it would annoy the Hive mind. Just theory though but the more the Imperioum, orks, eldar whoever. The more they resist if the massive fleet exists it will probably come full force eventually. But this is theory based on theory.

Then the Necrons fully awaken and bleed Tyranids to death.
