I know this might sound like a blindingly obvious question, but hey...
I am thinking of starting a gaming club in my school . We have up to 2 hours to play with after school. Does anyone have any experience of this sort of thing, or any suggestions?? I have a plan, but maybe I can learn from others before repeating mistakes

Well for starters you need to find people before you go to the teachers. Another thing is the school is picky, you'll have to explain how your gaming club is beneficial to people, this part shouldn't be hard since most games involve probability, math and statistics, just be sure to avoid the whole concept of "We paint stuff so we can kill them with other stuff" concept. Also be sure to specify how much $$$ it would consume, if you have a game board and terrain be sure to volunteer to lend those, otherwise the school won't like shelling out $$$ so kids can play wargames.

Yeah you are definetly going to need a teacher chaperone/sponsor. I would ask around if any teachers play 40k. They would probably be all in for a club. I also agree that you need some defense of 40k for skeptics, I.E. math, probability, painting, friendly competition. I don't think the "war" aspect is so much a problem, as it is extremely fictious.

You should also figure out some ways of limiting games to your time limit. A good place to start:

I would also suggest trying to find a saturday or a day of the week to stay later than normal, so that you could do a tournament, or play bigger (see also normal) sized games. Just a thought.

The key is people and space, find those and you're good.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Thanks for that. I actually work (as opposed to attend) at my school, so staffing is OK. We have Two hour "Enrichment" slots after school each day, so we have the time. I just need to wait for the green light..at then see how many kids actually want to do it..

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Someone I went to university with started a games club at the school he was working at as a technician (I believe he is now a teacher). He just needed to book a room and put a couple of announcements in assembly.

Though he tried to keep it more of a "gaming club" rather than a "40K" club, so he had MTG players, WHFB and 40K players, etc.

I think he also got the school to buy the starter set for 40K so that those who did not have models of their own had something to play with and there was at least 1 rulebook and set of templates

I'm hoping, if we get the go-ahead, to start after christmas-and to get a similar deal from my FLGS via the community person listed in the school toolkit (which, I have to say, is great). Being a MTG player myself, running a more generic club would be fine...good idea..

I work in a newly formed Academy in a tough part of Bedford. I know a few people who might be interested, but they won't want to be seen as "saddo"s

Lets see....

I would suggest spending the extra 5 points on a powerclub, so you can ignore armor saves in Close Combat.
