On behalf of a friend, does Str D not cause instant death on units that are T7 or above? Thanks!

Toughness has zero bearing on Destroyer rules.

So it always causes ID regardless of toughness?

Yeah instant death via the destroyer rule ignores toughness so one failed invulnerable save and thats bye bye to their favourite model/unit..

unless it has EW.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Yeah if its immune to ID which it will state in its rules then it simply takes wounds for however many invulnerable saves it failed by.

Destroyer rules do not ignore Invulnerable saves.

Destroyer causes an automatic wound with Instant Death, regardless of Toughness. It does not ignore Invulnerable saves, but it ignores all Cover saves.

Indeed the Volcano Cannon is Str D, as is a Turbolaser Destructor and a few other apocalypse weapons.

Also, Vortex Grenades aren't StD, they just remove things(and ignore Inv saves, unlike StD).

One of the Chaos-specific Strategic Assets in Apocalypse Reload gives a single model with a bolt weapon a StrD 7" blast shot (Daemon Shells). It also has the Gets Hot! rule like plasma weapons...except if you roll a 1, the 7" blast is centred over the model firing it, so it's a little more painful.

The few units that have toughness 7 and above tend to be garganuan creatures.

Most versions* of the STR D rules deal with this unit type differantly.

*I beleive the rules in the apoc book and some of the forgeworld books disagree about this effect.

Most, but not all. See also - Wraithlords, and both types of C'Tan.
