Wasn't it like yellow in DOW? I think it depends on the lens and amount of power used.

What color is Pew! Pew! Pew! is. Hmm, every drawing and picture that GW has published that I have seen has been a whitish yellow color.

Like said above what ever you want. A real "combat" laser would fire so fast you wouldn't be able to see it, so know one can say your wrong.

it was red in DoW, at least in the first. Most GW artwork does have it a white color, though.

It's sort of a moot point, though, as commissars use bolt weapons for summary executions.

Laspistols fire red ones but the Lascannons fire blue ones. perhaps it's related the relative indicator of strength? (Red heat is generally accepted as cooler than blue heat. Remember I said Generally).

if youd used a laspistol you could use a cocktailstick. and have it coming out of the laspistol and connect it to the head ot the sad and next to be late guardsman...

could look really freaking awsome...

the cocktailstick not to be painted to give it the energy seethrough look...

The color of the shots in DOW are red, and the beams are very thin - just like the lifespan on the average Guardsmen!

Unfortunately, due to the fact that lasers fire in a tight beam of light, you would only see the colour of the laser if you were in the process of being shot in the face....

Well, unless they are firing through an optically opaque medium like smoke (Which would cause reflection and refraction and lessen the laser's power.)

In DoW SM Lascannons were blue, IG Lasguns and Cannons were red

DoW2 lasguns were more of a bright orange color

A real, actually powerful lazer would vaporize dust in the air, not reflect off of it, and therefore would be pretty much invisible.

can't go wrong with red lasguns, unless someone waves science in your face, then of course you can just execute them on the basis of techno-heresy and presuming to know the secrets of the mechanicus.

Actually, this would hold true, but due to high ambient levels of grimdark in the atmosphere on most planets in 40k, they're usually somewhat visible.

40k runs off of the Rule of Cool, so actual science is moot in relation to las weapons. Go with whatever compliments your color choice the best. Although come to think of it, if the laser were actually visible (which in real life it wouldn't be), red would indicate a low energy, going all the way through the spectrum to purple, which indicates high energy.

I may be mistaken but I believe that the Green Laser Frequency is the strongest. So I would guess green.

Lasguns of the IG are generally just a laser version of the standard assault rifle of today, and being their relatively low strength of the shot in game terms, I would agree that Red works well for the "flashlights".

I think that plasma weapons are often blue and sometimes green, so laser wise I would probably say a red or purple beam for laser weapons. Just in comparison to what other energy weapons get painted.

I've seen them as red and yellow (in various DoW) but I think blue would be cool. Again though, you should choose whichever you think is coolest!

I would say red as well for normal laspistols/lasguns, maybe yellow or green for hotshot lasguns, and blue/purple for something like plasma. That's my take on the matter. But yes, if we were going real world physics you wouldn't see the beam unless it had something to refract off of. Think of a laser pointer.
