Hey,
this is my first new topic and I'm wondering about chapters that people have made themselves.
this is the story of my own chapter.

Not long after the Horus heresy, Fennias Orion Founded the Chapter originally known as the Blue Templars after being honourably discharged from the Howling Griffons for the loss of both his legs and both his arms whilst being attacked by the word bearers travelling home to Mancora in the Arios system. Orion could not bear with no longer being able to fight but all the chapters he sought to join saw a man with four Bionic limbs as an enormous liability.

Two centuries later whilst heading to assist The Ultramarines and Genesis chapters in battle at Waaagh! Irontoof, his cruiser was pulled into a warp storm and himself, hundreds of brothers, and many relics were lost in warp space. Presumed dead by the emperor and forgotten in time.

Another three centuries on and the Blue Templars escaped warp space and rejoined their brothers in war often mistaken as Ultramarines but when the story is told by a brother of one chapter to another they are often not believed.

Whilst battling alongside the Raven Guard at Waaagh! Skullkrak at the Targus system Orion was torn to shreds by a mob of Nobz after losing his whole squad to a Drive-by from a Trukk Believed to hold warboss Skullkrak. His position as chapter master was taken up by close friend of Orion and commander of the first company of the Blue Templars, Solinus Numitor.

His first act as Chapter master was to unofficially change the name of the chapter to the Disciples of Orion in which they have been known as ever since.

With no home planet to return to they travel space stopping only to help the imperium and gather supplies. Known as a myth to the other space marine chapters and still unrecorded.

It is a little cliched with the whole 'Known as a myth to the other space marines' but I tried to stay away from the whole ' this-is-my-army-they-pwn-and-are-really-awesome-and-nothing-beats-them' mentality

so I would love to know what you think and if it is historically correct and I would love to hear about your own chapters.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I actually lost the section between the first and second chapter. I guess I accidently deleted it.
stay tuned for the re-write.

Asherian in... 3. 2. 1... *sigh*

My opinion is that it's rather confusing and to me at-least it doesn't make much sense. I'm glad you have stayed away from the uber-chapter mentality but what you've said doesn't make much sense to me.

He was kicked out of his chapter (and survived losing 4 limbs?!) without instead being allowed to fight, interned in a dread or becoming a servitor.
Then he tried to join other chapters (40K Job-shop?) and they didn't let him?
Then when and how did he create the Blue Templars?
Then he (OK, his squad) was killed in a drive-by?
And now they just wander around gathering supplies? For what purpose? Hibernation?

Sorry, it's a good effort, but it doesn't make much sense to me. I can't see what it is Onion or his chapter does or why they're a myth...
If you could explain more, that would be appreciated...

"As I recall, your face was tortured. Imagine that - the Master of the Wolves, his ferocity twisted into grief. And yet you still carried out your duty. You always did what was asked of you. So loyal. So tenacious. Truly you were the attack dog of the Emperor. You took no pleasure in what you did. I knew that then, and I know it now. But all things change, my brother. I'm not the same as I was, and you're... well, let us not mention where you are now."

"but all the chapters he sought to join saw a man with four Bionic limbs as an enormous liability." Should have gone for selection with the Iron Hands, they would have made him Chapter Master on the Spot!..

I Like the Idea of a Space Based nomad Astartes Chapter, the idea is sound but rather than the discharge him after losing 4 limbs is a little out there. I would say after the reforms enacted by Roboute Guilliman that Fennias Orion took over a company of a Chapter of Howling Griffons which were reformed into the Blue templars. After losing most of his company in the waaagh! Skullkrak at the Targus system Orion was torn to shreds by Nobz losing all four of his limbs but somehow surviving. After much surgery he survived with 4 Augmetic limbs and rose to become Chapter Master of the Blue Templars. The Fourth Founding shifted his heraldry to the Chapter itself as the Black Templars formally demanded they change their title (arrogant bloody Templars! ). Thus the Disciples of Orion were born....To race across a burning galaxy aiding the forces of the imperium where ever they are in dire need. Just a suggestion, do as you will, fluff gives flavour and depth and a good point for conversions and characters.

Read my Chapter in the Signature block, Ultramarine successor North American Indian chapter.

The problems with this is that:
1. that isn't how chapters are created, apart from the second founding where the legions were divided, all new chapters are made on mars by order of the high lords.
2. the codex astartes was written after the horus heresy and this lead to the 2nd founding in 021.M31, the howling griffons come from an unnamed founding on M33, 2 thousand years after the second founding
3. after surviving 4 lost lims on the battle field, a space marine would either be inturned into a dread (if he was truelly heroic), given bionics to continue fighting or in the worst case turned into a servitor if he was brain dead. a chapter wouldn't waste bionics on a space marine then kick him out.
4. the only space hobos are renegade space marines
5. the only honorable discharge from a chapter is death, space marines don't retire to a vineyard in the south of france.
6. if he is a chapterless marine how was he able to form a chapter?
7. chapters like the iron hands have no problem with heavily bionic marines
8. Disciples of Orion sounds a bit renegady

however there are some good ideas
A chapter lost in the warp, reemerging to find they have been marked off as lost, trying to regain their position in the IoM and the trust of the high lords of terra and other chapters (very few space marines that spend that much time in the warp come out good and pure).

I would have Fennias Orion as a captain of the blue templars (lets say they were founded inbetween the 001.M32 3rd founding and early M36 13th founding), Fennias Orion as captain of the 2nd company of the blue templars set about on an oath quest (a bit like howling griffons) to behead a chaos marine commander that lead a strike on a nearby imperial world, to recover the honour of the chapter, as he belives that it was tarnished in failing to protect a near by system.

As he and his company travel on an intersept course they get trapped in the warp, after countless battles with the forces of chaos the company turn to bionic replacement of damaged limbs/body parts to keep as many marines fighting fit as possible and Fennias Orion seeing it as the best way to lessen the possible taint of the warp. their ship finally break out of the warp to find hunderds of years has passed in real space.

they set off to return to their homeworld in dire need of supplies, but they are bared from entering the system by the now chapter master of the blue templars (a marine that was a captain of the 1st company at the same time as Fennias Orion left for his quest), even though the chapter master recognised the ship as a lost blue templars vessel he feared that the marines on board where tainted by chaos, after much debate, Fennias Orion and his two most senior officers were allowed on world to petition the chapter master for acceptance back into the chapter, while the company waited outside of the system.

After days of debate between all the seniors maines present a decision was made, the bells of the monestry were rung out to mark the return of the chapter's long lost brothers, but a price was to be paid, to prove that they were truelly loyal, Fennias Orion must take his company on a crusade, once complete they would be allow to walk the hallowed halls of the chapter's monestry. gived fresh supplies and equipment the vessel set of to prove their loyalty.

sorry for the long post, just my idea, i feel it better fits established fluff while still being interesting

@mwnciboo. thanks for the ideas and I love the sound of a North American Indian chapter.
@BluntmanDC. thankyou! so much. thats why i posted it on this site. to see if it was historically correct. it seems not. I'm realatively new to wargaming and this helps alot. i just went off the stuff written in the latest codex about the howling griffons.
Thanks all.

Ok, I've finally written a timeline for the Disciples of Orion.

004. M32 Lertes Tiberian founds Blue Templars.
013. M32 second company of Blue Templars set out on an oath quest, led by Fennias Orion to claim the head of notorious warboss Irongob Krumpa after he brutally killed millions of people in hive Vexos on the home planet of the Blue Templars, Ekklesia Prime.
014. M32 whilst travelling back from beheading Irongob Krumpa Fennias and his company are trapped in the warp.
053. M32 Fennias Orion dies to the hands of chaos.
015. M33 The second company of the Blue Templars escapes the warp and begins to return home to find it has been destroyed. The company, now lead by Solinus Numitor and known as the disciples of Orion search for a new home planet to repopulate the new unofficial chapter.
024. M33 the Disciples of Orion settle on the planet of Nullius and make contact with Terra to find that they are marked as Heretics and are unable to repopulate their armies or found their chapter until they prove they are loyal to the emperor.
025. M33 Solinus and the remainder of his men set on another oath quest to claim the head of Lucifus, the commander of the seekers of Khorne.

When- during the second founding
After a slew of observations indicating that the northern fringe of human-controlled space could not be defended adequately enough with what SM chapters and guard regiments currently stationed there, and unable to derive more resources to this purpose with what they had, the High Lords of Terra decided upon the founding of another chapter and created another set of geneseed. The project was supervised by a newly-promoted Chapter Master Cortheus selected from the Ultramarines.
Homeworld- Gados
A planet buffeted by galeforce winds and striped with massive and towering mountain chains with frequent brakes of turbulent freshwater and saltwater lakes.
Holes and caves were hollowed out by the wind after centuries of these winds.
Cortheus saw the planet as an opportunity to specialise his chapter, make them more accurate and emphasizing reinforced positions.
Preferred heavy weapons- heavy bolter and lascannon.
Along with the (self-created) Scyllan Stormkiller Imperial guard regiments, the Iron Hands, and the Ultramarines, fough off an encroaching hive fleet (self-created) Oblivion.
More detail will be given if necessary. Errors, corrected.
Criticism encouraged.

Hit-and-run, guerilla fighting, psychological warfare, randomised tactics.
Home system enveloped by the Eye of Terror for over 200 years and the chapter was struck from the roll of honour and system was set for erasure from Imperial records.
Eye receeded and the Sentinals were shown to be loyal and fighting a large invasion of Chaos legionaires.
With help from the Sw chapter they were pushed back and the system is once again in imperial hands.

This was in relationship to a single space marine going around the IoM looking for work in a chapter, it wasn't in relationship to a chapter.
