Ok folks, I need some help here, I just traded up for a TON of Marines. All in total, I think I got about 40 Marines, 14 Death Company (5 With JP), Lamartes, A Vanguard squad, A Baal Predator, A Vindicator, Land raider & Crusader 50 Terminators, 5 Dreadnoughts and 9 Drop pods. HQ wise I have Commander Dante, Astorath The Grim. Now the question is, what would be a solid list that I can built from the materials that I have.

I need it to be in the ranges of 1850 for a tournament, just having a hard time figuring stuff out this time, really drawning a blank, maybe a Death Company list.

Standard Marines or Wolves probably do Drop Pod lists better than BA tbh. The main advantages of the BA codex are jump pack infantry as troops and discounted but fast vehicles, neither of which are a good fit with Pods. You can still do 10 man units in (free) Pods with 2 Melta as troops, but Wolves can get the same with bolters and much more assault potential for slightly higher cost.

If you want to do a Pod based list with what you have you are probably best to do a Dread based list, but if you were wanting to do a pure Pod list then you would probably need even more Pods (6 Dreads should ideally all arrive turn 1, which means 11 preferably 12 pods).

It's actually funny old BA did drop pod lists the best imo, and still potentially can, I'd LIke to see a 10 man BA assault squad hit the table combat squad etc etc, but Dreads love pods

Assault Marines carry bolt pistol and cc weapon, while Tactical Marines carry bolter.
I'd go for Assault Marines since they get a discount on the transport (Pod) when they get rid of their jump packs.

Solid list? Shouldn't be a problem.
You have 9 Pods so that 5 of them will arrive in turn 1.
I'd stick Dreads (3 Furiosos, 1 DC), one DC, one HQ with attached Librarian, and 3 Assault squads (10 men with meltas or flamers) in there.
The list scales at smaller pt games.

I'd say run 1 squad death company, with 4 power swords and 2 power fists and an infernus pistol in a drop pod. Run 2 7 man squads and one 6 man squad of assault marines in 3 more pods. Attach a captain to the 6 man squad. Put a DC Dreadnought and 2 regular Dreadnoughts with missile launchers instead of CC weapons on the 2 regular. Put a devastator squad in one, and a terminator squad in the last one.

Drop Pods are useless cuz they cant attack or assaults when they get out so theyll probably be dead by that turn

You could make a pretty badass dread based list, if you wanted to.

dread multi melta drop pod 140

Librarian - lance, shield of sanguinius - 100

Sanguinary priest infernus pistol 65

Thats roughly 2K I think. A couple of highlights that the BA's have over space wolves in a drop pod army.:

1. Feel no pain. The ab ility to create large bubbles of feel no pain by strategically placing the sangunary priest is awesome.

2. 3 melta's in a squad and the ability to be aggressive to get the 6" infernus pistol close in. Space wolves can get here but it is a one shot weapon for them compared to the infernus pistol.

The drop pods can't...but the marines inside can shoot, right?

And you drop 5 pods on the table and I doubt anyone will pop all 5 first turn...I'd probably target the payload first myself.

drop posds are great. i play IG most of the time. it isnt the drop pod i am worried about, but what is inside them. drop pods mainly become a target of opprotunity more than an objective.
