So, if you know your ork fluff, im sure you know that when an ork leader dies, the strongest orks fight it out to see who leads nest right? Well, this little bit of important fluff is not shown in any rules for orks. But i was thinking, (and this rule would of course need some work at first), what if the orks got this rule:

"I iz da boss now!"
When all of the ork player's HQs die, the ork player has the choice of using this special rule. 1D6 nobs take wounds in a non fleeing squad of the player's choice, then, one of the surviving orks it replaced with a warboss model, this warboss has only the same wargear as its nob version

This warboss starts in the nob squad but may break away at anytime (per independent Character rule).

Post any ideas/changes/comments below

More realistically, you'd basically lose the entire Nob squad for the rest of the game as they brawled among themselves. Something like this wouldn't be settled with a bunch of instant wounds. It takes time to beat half a dozen orks into submission.

Of course, Orks are also at least somewhat realistic about things. Such a brawl wouldn't start until the orks were confident that they had the situation well in hand. Or in other words, unless the ork player is tabling his or her opponent, the Nobs won't start bickering... yet...

Perhaps : If the nobs in question are at leat 12' from all enemy units, and are not locked in close combat.

Just the entire nobz unit dies and is replaced with one Warboss would be more realistic.

I kinda like the idea. I'm not sure how practical it would be in most situations.

To be fair, you're also fairly likely to have an up and coming nob gunning for the warboss position as well.

While the rules don't support an ork becoming a warboss on the field, it also doesn't support a Nob fraging a warboss to open up the position. IMO, you should not have one without the other. This isn't limited to warbosses though; every step up in the world of an ork is because you can physically smack down the opposition. Gruts would go for squad leaders, squad leaders would go for nobz, and so on.

This of course, would lead you to a fantasy type animosity, and I don't think that is what you want.

I suggest you do what Jason does. Last Nob standing gets to be the warboss next battle.

Ahahah!! why you're so critic??? that's amazing and totally illogic just as orks are supposed to be!!! In game balance it seems appropriate to me cause a Warboss basic point value is three times that of a nob and on one d6, 3 is a normal result... so you're losing 60 points for 60 points... you keep the basic equipment... you gain 1 Ws 1 S 1T 1 W 1 A losing much more...
Orks are rone to fighting for supremacy in every situation ...
fluff-wise we can imagine that the ork nob realize suddenly how cool he is and in a status of exaltation becomes the Warboss his mother wanted him to be since he was a spore....
OK... logic is very fallacious but.... they're ORKS!!!!

here is an idea.

"Da Competition"

This rule can ONLY be used if the ork force includes an Ork Warboss and at least one Nob(Mega Nobs and Boy mob Nobs included)

Before the battle you can nominate one Nob model to be "Da Competition" as the standing Warboss calls him.

if the Nob model and Warboss are ever involved in the same Combat the Nob must be moved into BtB with the Warboss and direct all of his attacks against him. if the Warboss is killed by the Nob, replace the Nob model with a Warboss armed in the same way as the Nob. The usurped Warboss doesn't give up any Kill or Victory points if he is killed by "Da Competition"

If the Warboss is killed by another source(ie: the enemy) replace the Nob with a Warboss as above, but the Nob inflicts D6 Str5 hits on his unit as he prooves he is da biggest and da best(something he would have done by killing the Warboss himself). the former warboss gives up KPs and VPs as normal.

mmmh... but this way you're losing in a round of combat the points of the warboss and the nob ( at least 80 points but more realistically 150 point, more or less)

However, if your Warboss is about to die/has only 1 wound left you can deny your opponent his Kill point by killing him.

in practical terms you lose a Nob model to get a new Warboss.

that's right but these are very specifical circumstances ( you have a warboss with only 1 wound left with both him and the nob able to assault the same unit... considering that a warboss probably have only one wound left in the final phases of the game) the fact you're prevented from assaulting the same unit with both the nob and the warboss for the whole game if you want to keep them both alive... it seems a big handikap to me... but maybe this is the intention... in this case I agree with you.. as a fun ork player I like every disadvantage they get from their brutish behaviours!!!

Wouldn't it make more sense for a nob to break away from the squad(not engaged at any time) and become da bossz sidekick? When the boss dies the nob becomes the boss and has same nob stuff but gets the boss weapons(apart from power claw)and raises leader ship by 1?
