Oh gods yes we had nightmares of moving utilities that were put down after the liner which only covered the main body of the Kitchen and didn't go into the cubby-holes that the utilities went into. It was always a fight getting them over the lip.

Tile floor went under all the utility spaces so now they just slide out with effortless ease.

Whatever floor you go with, take the extra time and make sure it goes under the utility gaps.

And yeah whilst I don't recall the price it was basically a case that the tiles is one big cost now, but long term is as bad/better than lino as you don't have to replace it. Plus don't forget man-hours just keeps going up as do materials.

The only other thing you might want to decide on is if you're ever going to have underfloor heating. If that's a future plan but not on the cards right now I'd go with lino as you'd be pulling it up/replacing when you installed the underfloor heating anyway. I wouldn't go with tiles today if you're going to do underfloor at some point in the future cause that means a lot more cost taking up the tiles.

Floor tiles for my kitchen appear to have been poorly applied.

Bits have broken off, and show only a smidgen of whatever the adhesive (concrete maybe?) was applied. As if they were being stuck to a wall.

What that has done is create gaps, somewhere for a downward force to go that little bit further.

Come the new year? I’m gonna seek quotes to do a replacement. Also need someone to paint my bedroom still. Got the paint, but cannot be arsed to do it myself.

Don’t suppose you remember how much that cost? Hard wearing is the ticket. And a solid stone floor is nice and cool for Puppers in the summer!

Stone tiles were from Topps Tiles in one of their very frequent sales, can't remember exactly but I'm sure that the floor and wall tiles (did the whole room in matt white brick tiles) was around £1500, so not a lot by today's prices. They are mixed sizes, but most are big as well so laying them happened very quickly. Kitchen is an average size.
