The Thousand Sons' heads are awesome.

I don't like the crest thing on their Contemptor, but the head is cool too.

Yeah I've been waiting for TSons stuff for years now and have held off on buying the FW kits until now for them to be released. Turns out the the 3rd party stuff out there has much more variety and better sculpt quality.

I am sure that the characters and specialist units will be better but everything they have shown so far has been pretty lacking. I may still spring for the contemptor but I get the feeling that with a bit of plasticard and gs even I as an inexperienced sculptor could make something more impressive!

How do you figure? Does resin receive details differently?

I went to Hershey Park in central PA this year, and I have to say I was more than a little disappointed. I fully expected the entire theme park to be make entirely of chocolate, but no. Here in America, we have "building codes," and some other nonsense about chocolate melting if don't store it someplace kept below room temperature.

Eh, for all those that hate, there are others of us that like them. Ordered a buttload of Achaen bits and a trio of Contemptors.

anyone thinking that they would look better with a blue and gold paint scheme? I'm unsure on the timeline when they changed the livery so it might not be a bad idea?

Sadly I think that change is after the heresy and has to do with the rubric. The 1ksons who left with the banished ahriman painted their armour blue.

I don't mind being corrected if that's wrong tho. Because i think that would look nice also.

Resin turns out a lot 'sharper' than plastic - hence why there was so much love for the Alpha Legion bits released - where the individual scales could be seen.

The TS contemptor's chest looks...flat really. The smooth surfaces and almost bland appearance does seem to suggest that was designed for plastic rather than resin. For resin would would have expected either a lot more details (hieroglyphics perhaps?) or a lot more angular details.

I mean, I like the head, I like the 'boxy' idea they are going with...the chest is just unimpressive and the crest on the contemptor is...meh.

Also, the cruel irony of the TS upgrade set only making 5 where everyone else makes 10. Yeah, it's nice to include the other shoulder but...at the same time that's sort of useless depending on the fluff and art to be released in terms of squad markings etc.

I don't think everyone has a scarab on the right shoulder...

It makes 10 (10 heads, 10 left pads, 10 right pads).

Plus it's the Achean sect of the chapter, whose symbol is a scarab.

The other TS upgrade bundle (the normal one) released a while ago has the more generic parts (10 heads that are different to these ones, 10 bodies and 10 pads).

My bad. Was actually looking more at the shoulders seperately. Also completely forgot about the other set too - sort of baffled me why my page was filled with Thousand Sons stuff when I was certain they already released it.

Five and Five here.

Just finding it really odd that they have a second upgrade set for what is essentially a Company Marking - which apparantly forgoes any sort of tactical markings or squad markings. Meh.

Part of me feels these individual chapter markings might have been better off on a fancy Transfer sheet (and in the place of these silly shoulder pads maybe giving them a fancier, more ornate torso compared to the other 1k Sons torso set?)

Ok that 5 & 5 shoulder set is strange. Didn't even realise that was a thing.

They probably would have been better off on a transfer sheet, but then again I know many people (including myself) would prefer to have both shoulders sculpted or both painted/decalled, so they're probably doing this to capitalise on that.

In looking over the various legion specific Contemptors they've done, the level of detail and "bling" is comparable to two or three other legions. Not every legion vomits legion specific bling all over their dreads, and some is simply going to be more understated than others. I think the chest decoration is just about right, for an Egyptian style scarab and wings. The head nicely echoes the TS head packs, the crest is a nice call out to the 40k TS, as well as looking like an earlier version of the mid-Heresy dread from the old HH card game's depiction of the dreadnought "Khontackht". The shoulder and leg banding matches the style of the Achaen shoulder pads, nicely formed scarabs and TS star symbols on the shoulders and knees, and there's a nice cohesiveness going on between the sides of the lower legs and the "belly" armor plate.

For some things FW sells, pictures have names "something01" or even "something1a". Does it meat there is at least another variant of that thing or this how FW photographers mark their sets of photographs?

Still not sure how i feel about the Thousand Sons, i agree that some hieroglyphics or something would've been cool - if they made them less chaotic looking than the WB stuff, but still relied on the same aesthetic appeal

I read on another forum that the Thousand Sons transfer sheet will have transfers specifically to fit in the oval shaped recesses on the Contemptors legs (I'm guessing like Cartouches). Transfers should be able to help with things like hieroglyphics and the like.

I vaguely remember seeing when the unit entry was first spoiled that the Iron Circle are an Elites choice - not sure if that's for all armies, or only for Iron Warriors. But if so, they should be useable in an Alpha Legion force.
