Whats the point of the big ol tank shell that hangs from the back of the Space Marine Vindicator? What tactical value does the vindicator have by dragging around a single massive shell on a crane cable behind itself during the heat of battle.

Someone please enlighten me.

Insurance of low ammo. Otherwise it goes by the "Rule of Cool" as decorative tank stowage.

It's so that you don't assault it of course! Think about it, if you assault the vehicle you're hitting the rear armor, but in this case there's a massive bomb in the way possed to kill anything that strikes it.

To fill up remaining sprue space and give players an easy "this part means it's a vindicator" part.

I think it was meant to show the tank to be in the process of loading a shell it's not just sitting there motionless.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

Loading a shell from where to where? The crane part is in such a strange place outside the vehicle.

I have to admit the placement of that looks a bit slowed and i don't see how it could be useful. Probably why I don't see a lot of people putting on theirs!

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you

Yea, when I first bought Vindicators I glued them on not really thinking about it.

One day I was playing a game and I was looking at them thinking "what the f***?", and promptly tore them off.

It looks cool. Plus, a 30/30 shell fits in the place of the plastic shell. Make your models into firearms. It is the American way. Prove that you Canadians aren't a bunch of wusses!

Im pretty sure attaching live ammunition to your figures is both illegal and probably frowned upon by GW employees lol

Bah! 2nd amendment! So what if you're not in the USA! Do it anyway. Carry a pin and a small hammer, threatening to fire the shell, despite the fact that that probably wouldn't work. They won't know that, 'cuz they'll be canadians who aren't gun nuts, as they don't have the second amendment!

Extra space on the sprue means more goodies for us to mess with. Just think of it as a nice little artillery shell you can use as an objective or whatnot.

It's compensating for something.

Really it's probably there to make the Rhino rear hatch look more useful.

Probably because it is based on the Sturmtiger assault vehicle?
They loaded a mother of projectiles with a crane.
Also had a stumpy little barrel as the shell was rocket assisted if memory serves.
