I don't expect many people to be like me but I've got to the point where I wouldn't dream of collecting a not pre-heresy marine army. My main army is thousand sons ph (will be in gallery when the company is finished) and I want to do ph emperor's children. I like the fact that I can still use the chaos codex but my men aren't supposed to be all evil and hedonistic. Also I think the colour schemes are generally better.

What do you think?

Pre-heresy, heresy or post-heresy?

Most legions were different from actual codices at pre heresy. The chaos codex may fit heresy/post heresy armies.

OTOH, I'd like to see some pre heresy jetbikes so go Pre heresy

I was umming and ahhing over this then I saw FW new releases of earlier variants of armour I was tempted. I then saw this at scribor....I will be making a Pre-Heresy 1k Sons...

Buying one type of armour from forge world would be expensive but AWESOME! Go preheresy!

I would LOVE to do a bunch of preheresy. or even rogue trader era would be cool even though its not PH.
Theres no way in hell i could do helmets as cool as the ones in the artwork for horus heresy novels.
If I absolutely had to do one. i would have a buttload of mk3. it looks super badass!

yeah, I'm doing during the heresy, just before corax went insane, when he used gene-acceleration, using the BA codex (sanguinary guard are honour guard, black rage is the genetic fault that caused the abominations, ect.)

May I ask why you are using the Chaos Codex?

In my opinion the standard marine codex is far more representative of a pre-heresy force - although it depends what 'era' of pre-heresy you are talking about. A 'great crusade' era force of Emporer's Children would look very different from the howling maniacs who assailed the palace on Terra for instance. So, I think it's important you define an era that you want to represent, go into as much detail as you are comfortable with, and then go from there.

Thanks for the comments. I use the chaos codex because it has the appropriate characters and the thousand son rules fit themselves a lot better than tactical marines. I'm doing great crusade era. Also I've decided to collect ph Raven guard after my thousand sons (a total of nine drop pods, I like).

No. Don't waste your money, just make them post-heresy or not at all. Emperor's children are basically just another chapter without slaanesh. Nothing is particularly interesting about them pre-heresy.

well pre-heresy is more fluffy and the armour looks better. And you'll be unique. I might start collecting my heresy-era force of my chapter master, chief libby, honour guard, monster squad, 2 assault squads, maybe a tactical squad or two.
