Subject: FW Imperial Fortress, worth it?

I considering taking a plunge and purchasing the FW Imperial Fortress Walls. Its a major purchase and probably looks better than what I could build in a reasonable amount of time (willing to take the time but too lazy if its too much time). That said does anybody out there own one and does it look as awesome in person? How heavy is it? Is it at all portable? I'm asking becuase if its too much then its not for me. I don't want to shuttle soemthing huge, heavy, and breakable around as it will inevitabley gte ruined. If its not too heavy and is durable then I'm going to consider it. Thanks in advance.

It's huge and cast from resin, which while not particularly heavy, is very fragile material.

So be careful with it. It's not as sturdy as normal plastic (actually plastic seems to be sturdier than that which they use for metal models...).

the manager at my FLGS has one- It's good, but not really worth the money. half the "detail" e.g: the lift thing, you can't see. I didn't notice, after 3 games with it, until i saw it listed on FW. Either make one, or buy things like trenches instead. Here's a good cheap scenery site/shop:
http://www.wargamesworkshop.com/ProductList.aspx?CatID=1&DivID=64&GrpID=216
only bad thing is, the staff haven't updated it since 2007, so there are some really good stuff in the shop that aren't on the site.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid. |

If you've got the scratch and a pretty permanent situation, I could see it being cool. I don't see how often you'd use such a massive piece of terrain outside of Apocalypse games though. Also, that much resin will probably be really heavy, since it's solid and not hollow.

Unless you plan to make a fixed 'story' board I wouldn't really bother. It's really expensive.. and hearing you ask about portzbility makes me think that you don't have a big group of gamers to invite over.. so I would say avoid it and buy some of the smaller scenery.
Hell if you have that much to blow on some walls, get yourself another army or expand the one you've got!

Yeah, the Fortress of Redemption is a massive piece. Looks great on the table, and if you don't stick the whole thing together you can use bits of it elsewhere (like putting that great tower alongside a Landing Pad, and so on).

He's not talking about the fortress I think. He's talking about http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Warhammer_40,000_Terrain/IMPERIAL-FORTRESS-WALLS.html.
It's HUGE.

Buy an Imperial Strongpoint. 1000 times cheaper, and you can mix and match, transport half of it, and generally make a good map out of it. That fortress is unwieldy and theres only one entrance, I dont think it would make for good non apoc games.

We are aware of that, but AlexHolker, H.B.M.C. and me suggested to rather buy the Fortress of Redemption.
