Hey all, I received two battleforces (Space Marines and Space Wolves) since my parents don't know the difference between WFB and 40k, so I thought I would try my hand at a Space Wolves army.
HQ (170):
Rune Priest with Master of Runes, Chooser of Slain, Beastslayer = 170 points
Elites (220):
5 Wolf Scouts with Meltabombs, Meltagun = 110 x2 units
Troops (750):
10 Blood Claws with flamer, powerfist = 175
10 Grey Hunters with 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist, Drop Pod = 215
10 Grey Hunters with 2 Flamers, Power Fist, Rhino = 210
10 Grey Hunters = 150 (Not Sure what to give them here)
Fast Attack (115):
5 Skyclaws with powerfist = 115
Total: 1255
I'm not sure what else to add to get it to 1500 points. Any comments or concerns would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

First off, powers? Drop master of runes and chooser of slain. Beastslayer is good
Elites (220):
5 Wolf Scouts with Meltabombs, Meltagun = 110 x2 units
Looks good
Troops (750):
10 Blood Claws with flamer, powerfist = 175
Either take 14 blood claws with a rune priest and wolf guard or just take them as grey hunters
10 Grey Hunters with 2 Meltaguns, Power Fist, Drop Pod = 215
This is regarding both the one above and below. Either take 2 rhinos or 2 drop pods, as you only have one tank on the board it will be shot up very fast. Meltaguns and powerfist are always good
10 Grey Hunters with 2 Flamers, Power Fist, Rhino = 210
I've never taken flamers, when i use my friends space wolfs. They just never work for me, regarding transport switch it to a drop pod as 4 melta guns upfield Turn 2, you take out some tanks hopefully.
10 Grey Hunters = 150 (Not Sure what to give them here)
Same configuration as the first grey hunters
Fast Attack (115):
5 Skyclaws with powerfist = 115
Skyclaws have pretty bad weaposkill (WS3) which isn't very good for hitting with a power fist. You could switch these to blood claws put them with your other claws and you have 14, join that squad with the Rune Priest give them a Land Raider Crusader and they'll be good to go.
Total: 1255

Change one grey hunter of each pack into a Wolf Guard, these act as the leaders of the squads and give them a higher leadership.
Thanks
Hope that helps you, I don't right particularly good lists. I do see you are lacking anti-vehicle, get some long fang packs in there.
Long Fangs Pack x2
Sgt
4x ML
Missile launchers are very versatile for dealing with hordes to mech armies (primarily 5th edition armies).

Rune Priests Powers: Thunderclap and Tempest's Wrath,
As of right now, I only have the transports that come in the Space Marine Battleforce and the Space Wolves Battleforce, so I have exactly 1 drop pod and 1 rhino.
I was thinking of this as an anti-tank strategy: 2 scout teams with meltabombs and meltaguns get positioned closer to enemy tanks, and move in while the drop pod lands close, allowing my 3 units with meltas to take out some tanks (hopefully). The rhino will probably be taken out :-/, but my strategy was to move it behind cover, heading to objectives or less priority units.
Also, side note (because I was looking to add a Long Fang Pack or 2) what models do they use?
Thanks for the help so far, hopefully this helps you kinda see my reasoning behind using what I've got.

If you are coming over to 40k from WFB you are in for a serious culture shock. Mech is the name of the game in this system, and everything that CAN take a transport SHOULD take a transport.
Have you built any of your models yet? What figures do you have to work with? I can give you some advice for sure, but knowing what you have and what you are willing to buy would be a big help!
Here is some general advice based on the models you listed above:
Assault Marines in general are pretty terrible unless you are running Blood Angels, and Skyclaws are no exception, so I would recommend ditching them for something else.
I would avoid Podding units with Space Wolves. Dreadnoughts are generally the best units to put in Drop pods and usually in pairs if you can. Otherwise they are best left at home. When fielding Drop Pods in any configuration, they need to be taken in odd numbers. 1 or 3 are usually best. Space Wolves have an advantage for Drop Pods though, in that they can take one for a pack of Wolf Guard who are all attached to other packs as commanders, and deploy it empty (meaning more of your models start on the board or come in on the 1st turn with fewer being left behind.) One tactic is to take 2x Dreadnoughts and Wolf Guard with a Drop Pod. This lets both Dreadnoughts come in on turn 1, and because the Wolf Guard are attached to other packs (usually), everything starts on the board on your first turn, and you only roll for an empty pod from reserves.
Blood Claws should not be taken on foot. They need a transport, as everything does, and this usually means fielding them in a Land Raider Crusader with a Wolf Priest to give them Preferred Enemy. It's generally best to take Grey Hunters as your primary infantry to start, as they are the most versatile and fight just as well as Blood Claws in melee, if with fewer attacks on the charge. They are also the most forgiving when it comes to tactics.
The best Rune Priest powers are Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane and Tempest's Wrath. I always field some combination of those three powers when taking Rune Priests (Usually with a single I do LL/TW and for more than 1 I do one with LL/MH and the other with MH/TW). Master of Runes is a terrible upgrade. For 50 points you get half another Rune Priest, and you cannot cast two offensive powers, or at a different target. The Chooser of the Slain is a good upgrade, but it's a bit redundant with Saga of the Beast Slayer. You have an easy enough time hitting already so 10 points for a re-roll seems a bit much to me.
Long Fangs are an amazing unit, but it takes a bit of kit-bashing to make them work. The only really effective way to field them is with all Missile Launchers, which means ordering them online. I bought mine from www.thewarstore.com, and I used a Wolf Pack (the basic Space Wolves box) and 10 Missile Launcher bits ordered from their bits section. I then built the pack leaders out of leftover pieces from other Wolf Packs. It's a little expensive since the Missile Launchers are $9 each, but $120 for 10 Marines wielding Missile Launchers is not too shabby. Thats $12 each, and when you figure a normal heavy weapon trooper is $15 you are actually getting a deal. You can also take Razorbacks for Long Fangs to add additional firepower to your list, which is something I do rather often.
Here are a couple of 1,000 point lists I play with regularly. I recommend starting with those or something similar and then moving up to higher point totals after you are familiar with how Space Wolves play. The models make a great base for any force and you can easily expand in just about any direction.
List 1:
Rune Priest (Chooser, Meltabomb, Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane) - 115
3 Wolf Guard (3x Power Fist, 3x Combi-Melta) - 129
8 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 170
9 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
9 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
6 Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers, Razorback w/ LasPlas) - 215
Total 999
List 2:
Rune Priest (Meltabomb, Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane) - 105
3 Wolf Guard (2x Power Fist, 3x Combi-Melta) - 109
8 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 170
9 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Wolf Standard, Rhino) - 185
5 Grey Hunters (Meltagun, Razorback) - 120
5 Long Fangs (4x Missile Launchers, Razorback) - 155
5 Long Fangs (4x Missile Launchers, Razorback) - 155
Total 999
Both lists play with similar tactics. The Wolf Guard join the Grey Hunter packs as leaders, the Rune Priest rides with the 8 man pack in each list, and the Long Fangs set up on the table with the empty Razorbacks following along extra transports should one of yours blow up. Both have decent anti-tank, both have decent ranged and melee capabilities and both have psychic defense. They are about the most well rounded lists at 1,000 points that I can come up with.
You should have most of the models you need to run this list, though you might need to order some additional Meltaguns and Combi-Meltas which can also be found on www.thewarstore.com for decent prices. They also offer a flat 20% discount on all GW retail prices, so picking up the models online is a nice way to save some cash.
Hope that helps!
