Subject: Necrons, do they have a chance?

Does the, a little bit of everything Necron army stand a chance?
I'm looking at:
Necron Lord
10 flayed ones
4 Pariahs
5 Immortals
35 warriors (10,10 and 15)
3 wraiths
4 scarab swarms
3 destroyers
2 tomb spiders
1 monolith
2 heavy destroyers
~2000 points.
I like the look of a mix of models on the table, so it's a more visually pleasing army for me.
From what I've read, necron tend to get kicked in the nuts no matter what you take, so I might as well have something a little more pretty, and try and get the right model in for the job.
Also, can the necron lord join the Pariahs and use the veil to deepstrike them, or is the veil a "necron" only item?
I've heard locally, the only 3 armies not represented are Daemon Hunters, Witch Hunters, and Necron. I prefer the look (and price tag) of necron compared to the other options.

Only thing I have seen work is wraith spam, destroyer spam or monolith spam with warriors in reserve

Look, IMHO a 'bit of everything list' I think, is a bit to easy to phase out, while it looks awesome and would hopefully be fun,it would just get frustrating with someone just phasing you out by concentrated fire by turn 3, but that's just my experience, your FLGS probably has a completely different meta to me

Depends on your playing circle. if You play with a sea of grey, WAAC, FOTM swaggle of powergamers then i would say no.
If on the other hand you play with a bunch of younger guys, newbs, or people who collect first and play second. go for it. Represent everything is a playstyle most people eschew in favour of cheeseball netlists as far as i have seen

I have had great success with a list similar to yours. It can be used to great effect. It does however require a solid grasp of the units and their synergy to the rest of your army. The key to success with necron army like this is in the combination of units. Combining both shooting, assaults and speed is needed for an army of this type to work. Like warriors shooting to soften the target, then combi assaulting with wraiths and swarms. Wraiths can hold up independent characters with their high initiative and invulnerable saves and the swarms can dish out a good amount of attacks vs the command-type of squad. If the wraiths die... so what... it is only a wound or two for combat res. It can be done...and well, but know your tactics and your synergy and you will do well. It has a high learning curve and you might lose a bit at first then you will surprise people. Be patient and pay attention to your victories and losses on a squad level and you see the best combos.
I do not see them as unstoppable or even super competitive but you can surprise people with them. They are unorthodox and have no unit the army depends on. Everything is expendable. Making target priority difficult for your opponent. Don't fear phase out. Its harder to do then you might think with this type of list. Just keep a warrior squad or 2 in cover and keep everything aggressive at all times. But get those two squads with in 24 inch range, so they can shoot. You will need every gun, claw and the kitchen sink to keep the pressure on your opponent.
People have given up on the crons, so to speak. Spam seems to be the only thing people say works for them. I disagree with this...obviously. I play in a pretty competitive environment and our store regularly sends one or 2 people to the finals at Ard boys. We have a few different cron builds at the store. Some spam, some one of everything. The one of everything lists tend to be more competitive, in our neck of the woods. While not feared... they have earned respect and you can never count them out. Even in a highly competitive environment.
I shall dismount the soap box now.

it is a solid list i will give it that, first off though pariahs do not count as necrons so they cannot veil.
secondly, the big killer for necrons is the phase out and low initiative at assault. like sha1emade said its all in how you play it. a lot of people see necrons as a losing force right now, its not it is entirely a finesse army how well YOU play it is how well the army is. tiny mistakes can cost games but you learn the most from them and when crons do get their update sometime in the future you will be better for going through and learning how to avoid even the smallest mistakes.
and remember hte biggest thing. HAVE FUN! this doesnt have to be win win win. it sure is nice but if you have a great time then you have accomplished your goal

Wait, do I need Good Tactics, or God Tactics?
At 2000 points:
I phase out at 14, with 59 necrons.
Best possible phase out number is 25 (102 necrons: Necron Lord, 3x5 flayed ones, and 5 units of 18 warriors for 102 necrons)
Every 72 points of non-necron elites, fast attack and rares I drop add 1 to my phase out. I think you kind of have to decide what's an acceptable level of phase out, and just hope for the best.
Should I drop a monolith for 13 more warriors, and increase my phase out by 3? Maybe, but it's nice having a monolith on the table.
I guess the biggest advantage of having a little bit of everything, is that when a new book does come out, I'll have at least some of the new thing ready to go.

The problem is that against certain lists they just have no chance.
Unless you take heavy destroyers, your only main anti tank weapon is your monolith. Sure you can glance on a 6, but this is vastly inferior to their threat level when it was introduced in 3rd edition.
Any competent space wolves or blood angels player will annihilate you - and i speak from experience. With next to no close combat threat (pariahs are good but at 1 attack each and no inv, they are fodder for death company/LC termies), all your shots are going to bounce of MEQ armour.
Ive found necrons are highly effective against ork footsloggers, and even against tyrannids. Eldar/Dark Eldar is so/so. But most MEQ will have a field day with you.
