Here is my army:

Sanguinor
Epistolary - jump pack + hand flamer; Sanguine Sword & Unleash Rage
Honor Guard - jump packs + 2x lightning claw & stormshield + pair of lightning claws + thunderhammer & stormshield & banner

Furioso dreadnaught - extra armor + Blood Talons & heavy flamer
Sanguinary Priest - jump pack + power sword

10x assault Marine - meltagun/flamer & thunderhammer/stormshield
10x assault Marine - meltagun/flamer & power fist/infernus pistol

Vanguard veterans x5 - jump packs + 4x power sword & power fist/stormshield

Stormraven - extra armor + twin linked lascannon & twin linked multi-melta

*Librarian attached to Honor Guard and ride in Stormraven with Furioso. Sanguinary Priest joins assault squad with Sanguinor's Chosen.
*All units held in reserve.
*Vanguard get Red Thirst, assault Marine sergeant with infernus pistol and power fist receives the Angel's Blessing.

Here is my opponent's army to the best of my memory:

Logan Grimnar
Wolf Priest - bike + combi melta

8x Wolfguard (all on bikes) - combi melta + frost blade + power fist
5x Wolfguard terminator - wolf claw & stormshield + power fist & CML + thunderhammer & stormshield + 2x chain fist & combi plasma
10x Grey Hunter - 2x plasma gun + MotW + power fist - rhino
10x Grey Hunter - meltagun/plasma gun + MotW + power fist - rhino

5x Long Fang - 5x ML
Landraider Redeemer - pintle mounted multi-melta + extra armor

*Wolf Priest joins WG on bikes; Logan joins WG terms in landraider.


Mission was killpointswith DoW deployment. I won the roll for deployment and chose to go second). Opponent started on the table with one squad of Grey Hunters in rhino back along his edge beside two level  ruins.


1st Turn - SW
Other squad of Grey Hunters rolls onto the table on other side of ruins, Long Fangs walk on into ruins then run to climb into second level.

1st Turn - BA
N/A

0 kp SW - 0 kp BA


2nd Turn - SW
Nothing comes in from reserve. All units on the table hold the line. Rhinos do not pop smoke.

2nd Turn - BA
In comes assault squad with the Sanguinor's Chosen, Sanguinor and the Vanguard. Vanguard land beside Long Fangs. Assault squad lands behind one rhino. Sanguinor lands behind LOS blocking terrain beyond potential 3rd turn charge arc of SW. Assault squad destroys the rhino and Vanguard charge Long Fangs killing all but one. Long Fang holds.

0 kp SW - 1 kp BA

3rd Turn - SW
In comes biker squad and landraider. Landraider moves beside Vanguard and unloads Logan and his terminators. Both squads of Grey Hunters surround assault squad along with bikes. Shooting kills the entire assault squad along with Priest. Logan and his terms assault Vanguard. Vanguard kill last Long Fang and are destroyed.

3 kp SW - 2 kp BA

3rd Turn - BA
In comes second assault squad and Stormraven. Assault squad lands beside Sanguinor behind LOS blocking terrain. Stormraven comes in 6" onto my table edge and alphastrikes rhino, destroying it.

3 kp SW - 3 kp BA

4th Turn - SW
Bikes move forward towards Stormraven but well outside of effective shooting range. One squad of Grey Hunters move and run towards bikes to support them. Other squad of Grey Hunters move and run to support Logan. Logan casts Tank Hunter on his terms, CML shakes Stormraven.

4th Turn - BA
Stormraven moves flat-out towards bikes. Sanguinor moves to assault Grey Hunters supporting Logan. Assault squad lands beside landraider. Stormraven shakes landraider with lascannon then the assault squad meltagun wrecks it. Sanguinor charges Grey Hunters, killing five and they break fleeing off the table.

 3 kp SW - 5 kp BA

5th Turn - SW
Bikes move up to shoot and assault Stormraven. Logan and his terms move to assault Sanguinor. Bikes immobilize skimmer but fail to do any damage in assault. Terms shoot Sanguinor then charge with Logan. Sanguinor puts two wounds on Logan and takes one wound.

5th Turn -BA
Epistolary and HG plus Furioso disembark. Epistolary and HG move to assault bikes, Furioso moves to assault last squad of Grey Hunters. Assault squad moves in to support Sanguinor. Epistolary casts Sword and Rage. Epistolary and HG destroy all bikes in the charge. Furioso destroys Grey Hunters on the charge. Sanguinor kills Logan and dies from return attacks from terms, terms lose three from assault squad, break and flee off the table.

4 kp SW - 10 kp BA

Opponent concedes game.

So anyways I gave my friend a retooled list and we are gonna rematch soon.

One Rune Priest with Tempest Wrath could have made for a hard day of rolling for you.

Practically everything in your army would have been taking both difficult and dangerous terrain any time they deep struck, moved, or assaulted. If the 1's didn't get you, the reduced mobility for assaults would have caused problems.

Luckily for me my friend doesn't tailor his lists I'm happy to say. He's cool like that.

Why did your opponent reserve any of his units? At least put them in DoW special reserve and thats it, makes 0 sense to reserve against an army that is better at reserves than you...

Hammer army vs hammer army. Guess Logan was no match. You should play against Thunderwolf Cavalry.

Tempest Wrath is not a tailor list ability. I have a Rune Priest in every single list I take long before I even think about taking a Wolf Priest. Having Tempest Wrath is just not for BA DoA lists. It is against any list that has jump infantry, deep strikes, has skimmers, or jet bikes. A very useful ability for disrupting mobility of any army.

That's true but you rarely if ever see anyone take it. JAWS and LL seem to be the most popular choices by far.

This was my friend's first shot at a SW biker army. I don't think it works that well with Loganwing. I think WG mounted on bikes is too expensive for what you get. I have suggested he switches over to Swift Claws and take more characters on bikes. I do think Wolf Scouts on bikes could work well with bikers.

About how he reserved his army... I forgot about the bikes coming in and pretty much wasted my first assault unit to come in with the Sanguinary Priest attached. I was a lot more careful with the second squad. I would have brought in the bikes to target the Sanguinor - they really could have shot him up with the twin linked bolters.

He used to run TWC which is definitely a tough matchup. It's fun to try new things though. : )

I take it. Then again, I run 3 rune priests in my competitive Space Wolves list.

I don't normally run TWC, but the first (and so far, only) time I've tried them, the Tau player I was playing against conceded just before I hit his lines on turn 3. Then again, I was running 15 of them, all equipped differently for wound shenanigans. Lol.

Lone landraider is asking for melta death, a single longfang squad is asking for VV to assault them. 1 bike squad thats overcosted. The list sadly is not that great and I am not surprised it got destroyed as easy. Sanguinor can take out the bikes and WG by himself. Logan's awesome abilities are mostly wasted.

I never said it was a great list. I have played against a solid SW biker army and it was a really hard fought match. I know I've made some major changes to my DoA list since I first began to play it. Anyways I'm sure my friend will improve the list. I see SW bikes as having some serious synergy with other units like Wolf Scouts. SW having access to four HQ is a boon for this style of play as far as I'm concerned.

Between the Sanguinor and the Furioso dread. Its open season on the SW army.
