The Energy field rule states that the opponent never rolls more than 1D6 for armour penetration. Does this rule also mean that even if a rending weapon rolls a 6 for Armour penetration, it doesn't get it's extra D3?
On another point (an a bit off topic!), the falcon model and most drawings have a scatter laser and a bright lance on the turret but the vehicle has a pulse laser as standard and can only choose 1 of bright lance, scatter laser, starcannon etc etc. Bit of a design flaw or am I being a numpty?
Thanks guys.

Yep. If you can only roll 1d6, the rending bonus wouldn't apply. Same goes for melta weapons.

back in 4th deffensive weapons were strength 6 or less. Basically all but 2 builds could fire all the weapons after a 12" move ( EML only if you fired krak). This, the holofield and the fact it could transport made it the only choice for any one playing 4th.

The bright lance and the pulse laser look very similar. You always have a pulse laser, and then a choice of one other. For the longest time, the falcon model only came with a scatter laser, and the only weapons bits were metal and from weapon platforms or warwalkers.
It wasn't until the plastic war walker came out that the falcon kit came with other weapons for modeling.
As a side note, It's a big flaw in the rules that players would rather have a 2nd bright lance than have the tanks main gun.

Que?
If you mean 'Does the Energy Field only apply to attacks from the Front or Side?' then the answer is yes.

Yes rending from CCW, and Ranged rending on the Rear of the Tank are both valid.

Great that's what I thought - only 1D6 no matter what. Rending from an assault would definitely work because the energy field only works for ranged attacks from the front or side.
I guess the one that looks remarkably like a bright lance is a pulse laser then!!
Thanks very much guys,

Yarp, the BL-esque weapon is the pulse laser.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

If you put the two side by side, the difference is a little more obvious.

Actually, the Vyper shuriken cannon (standard weapon when it was released in 2nd ed prior to the Falcon) would also fit the mount for the Falcon's scatter laser.
They were the only two options for many years, and in 2nd ed, the shuriken cannon WAS superior to the scatter laser (better ASM, similar number of shots).
Now you can use the star cannons and missile launchers from the wave serpent turrets as well.
Also, yes, the pulse laser and bright lance look similar, until you see them side by side. The pulse laser is larger (twice the length).

Actually come to think of it I don't know if I have even looked at the BL properly! I have had the Falcon model for a few years and have only just gotten back into 40k so think I just assumed it must be BL.

In addition to being twice as big, the Pulse Laser also has the little sidecar emitter/targeter thingy underslung, whereas on the brightlance it's on top.
