Robot Viking and Dream Pod 9 are doing a contest:

Hey guys,

Ed Grabianowski of Robot Viking just put up his review of Heavy Gear Arena, and he's also hosting a contest to win a Heavy Gear Arena Two-Player Starter Set and a copy of Operation: Drop Bears Dive!

He's also got a ton of exclusive Heavy Gear Arena wallpapers in 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios.

Disclaimer: I do work for DP9.

As the site's blocked from my work internet connection, more details about the contest posted into the thread would be awesome!

C&P from the website:

Dream Pod 9 will be shipping Heavy Gear Arena in just a few weeks. This new set of rules for their signature mech combat game allows smaller squads of mechs to battle in gladiatorial matches for fame and fortune. I’ll have a full review later today, but you can win your own copy of the starter kit right now!
First, let’s talk prizes. The contest winner will receive their own copy of the Heavy Gear Arena Two-Player Starter Kit, a boxed set containing a small format version of the Arena core rules, four “hired gun” minis with extra weapons, 4d6 and a measuring tape. That’s everything you need to start battling it out in a $65 boxed set.
But that’s not all. The winner will also score a pdf version of Operation: Drop Bears Dive! (a $17 value), an excellent addition to the Heavy Gear: Blitz miniature combat rules.
You don’t even need to win the contest to get something out of it. Everyone who enters the contest will get a coupon code for 10% off all Dream Pod 9 eBooks in addition to any concurrent site-wide sale on DriveThruStuff. We gamers do love our stacking bonuses.
Ok, so how do you enter and (hopefully) win? Your first step is to head over to dp9.com and download the first two issues of their Heavy Gear magazine, Gear Up. They’re totally free. Then, read them so you learn a bit about the war-torn sci-fi world that Heavy Gear calls home.
Now you just have to answer four questions. All the answers can be found in those two issues of Gear Up.
1. What Prime Knight Arcology Crest is Featured in Gear UP 1?
2. What are the two armies featured in Gambit Garage in Gear UP issue 1?
3. What is the role of the 3rd Platoon in Digger Company in Gear UP 2?
4. What is the name of the new recruit in the Willem’s Flying Badger in Issue 2 of Gear UP?
Send your answers to arenacontest@dp9.com. Don’t send them to Robot Viking. The contest will run from now until Dec. 15th, when the winner will be chosen at random from all the correct entries. The winner will be announced here on Robot Viking.

i have no doubt the rules will be fun and the minis nice coming from DP9. i just hope they don't play their usual edition switching double dipping game like with the normal heavy gear that got me to stop buying their products twice over 10 years. :(

Wasn't JC Fleet Scale "Lightning Strike"?

I was referring to actual scale. Heavy Gear has/had a 6mm Fleet Scale game with 3 gears to a base and some of the landships (which now seems completely unsupported), and one year at the GAMA tradeshow DP9 was showing off prototypes for a JC Fleet Scale due out "that summer" that I never heard anything of afterwards (this was 5 years or so ago). There's also been posts on their forums of plans for a JC blitz version that never went anywhere either.

So they'll release Transformers: WWII and Rock em Sock ems, but nothing for a game they've been talking of updating for years. Not a big fan of supporting companies that wont support their games.

JC Blitz is something a lot of the guys who do work for DP9 would like to do. It's just been time to determine how... Jovian Chronicles was, according to posts I've seen online, a kind of weird blend of one group that wanted to do a Gundam-esque mecha setting, and another that wanted a hard sci-fi fighter-jock/carrier or struggling space worker kind of feel. The two ideas got shoved together. Note that I don't think any of the guys involved in the above actually work for DP9 any more.

I know I'd like to see it make a come back, but it's always an issue of time and making it in a format that people want. :(

I'm not sure if anyone who worked on a JC Fleet Scale is still involved with the company either, actually. It's not a project I'm aware of, but then again my time is limited so i don't know everything.

I guess by 'Transformers: WWII" you mean Gear Krieg, which was originally released in the late 90s, i think? DP9 hasn't done much on that property for years... There's an agreement with Agis who is doing some cool books for the setting and there was a couple minis released in the last couple years, but that is about it.

Heavy Gear Arena is something a lot of people had asked for. Dueling has always been a part of the game setting since it's inception (Heavy Gear Fighter) so I don't think it's surprising.

Or to put it another way:

Please judge us by the current lineup, as there's been a lot of turnover from even a few years ago. (That's good and bad... For example, in my opinion John Buckmaster did some really great work on L&L and Return to Cat's Eye.)
