If he uses the actual Eye of Terror list, then I may have some ruling problem, since that is prettymuch rendered illegal and almost completely unplayable due to the new Chaos Codexes. If it's an IG or Ork stand-in, then I have no problem and would feel honored to play against one.

I'm not familiar with the codex, but I'd be honoured to have a go.

I have another question, sorry guys:

I love mutants. I always like playing as the deformed, creepy guys in sci fi games. Now, Latd get mutants, but I really don't like the way they are, and I want to have them with guns without needing hordes of them, so..

Is it okay to have Traitors look like mutants, with the appropriate gear? I know that is weird, like asking if you can use cadians as stormtroopers.. but I really don't like the strange rules and set up for the Mutants in Latd. Also, my mutants look more like Hills have eyes, not ''massive left arm, tiny head, 9 legs''. I thought it looked more Human-like, and reminds me of the Scavvies.

Thank you for putting up with my nagging..

Use the units as the units - don't change the rules, but if you've go good conversions and they all work with the rules go for it

I'm not changing the rules, just the appearance. I figured I did not explain it well, :

Traitors are renegade guardsmen. I am wanting to know if I can make them have mutated faces, and shredded rags for shirts and stuff, so kind of mutated, but still holding the appropriate wargear.

Yes

Its the same idea with "counts as" armies.

Actually, not even that. Mutated traitors makes perfect sense, and wouldn't be "counts as" if all you were doing was making them look a little more deformed.

As the owner of an extensive LatD army I am exceptionally bias when it comes to this topic, so my answer is obviously an emphatic and enthusiastic YES. LatD are a fantastically fun army with limitless modelling opportunities (I’ve never had more fun with any model than with the Mutants Hordes I made – every single one is different!).

There are a few quirks to reconcile with the Chaos Daemons and ‘Chaos’ Codex, but nothing that two reasonable people couldn’t work out with a spare half an hour to an hour or so. They’re certainly not going to break the game, and bring a much needed missing element to 40K.

The more LatD the better.

As long as the LatD player worked out any rule problems first the yeah sure. LatD armies (Although very few) usually looked awesome.

Isn't the Eye of Terror codex still legal anyway? I have a friend who has it and he played it-he said he called GW and they told him that as long as no book came out and replaced it, it was still legal. I know, take everything you hear from a GW rep over the phone with a truckload of salt, but if that was the call...I have no problem with it. The fact that he combined the Eye of Terror book with the new Space Wolves book though...even though I beat him, I had a problem with that-especially since I found out he was mixing characters from the SW codex into units from the other!!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I would let them play it, as long as it was the Eye of Terror codex , and not something they made up or a mixing of two codices, like the previous poster mentioned.

I'd rather play against the 3rd Edition Lost and the Damned or Chaos Space Marine lists than against the 4th edition Chaos Space Marine or Daemon lists.

I would have no problem with it if the person bringing them had fixed any problems with the rules first, as has been said. To be honest, that goes for the 3/3.5 ed Chaos Marines codex too - even though it's technically illegal I wouldn't have a problem playing a friendly game with someone who wanted to play a list from it.

It's complicated."

I, for one, have absolutely no idea what someone means by a "Lost and the Damned" army, given that the Eye of Terror codex references out of print editions of the codices, and units that no longer exist in the current codices. For me, a precondition of playing against that army would be the presentation of a well organized document containing army list entries and unit descriptions because four codices and a hand written appendix do not combine to produce a compelling argument. And sitting down for an hour to work out the details of an army list when I'd rather be playing isn't an argument in favor, either.

If someone handed me a unholy mess containing a Lash Prince, Psycher Battle Squad, Flamers, Skulltaker, Bloodletters assaulting from deep strike, IG tanks, and some mutants, my response is going to be "No, the cake goes in your stomach when you eat it". If someone hands me the unusable-as-printed mess in the Eye of Terror codex, the answer is also going to be "No, you need to update it first". But a nicely organized hard copy of something reasonable would get a "Yes, I'll play against this."

Gathering the Informations.

If someone says "I want to play a Lost and the Damned/Traitor Guard army" around here, I bring out my copies of the Vraks campaign books and let them go to town writing up a list, even if they need to use random counts as so that they can field something that appeals to them or if we need to figure out different points costs, etc.

This is one of those armies that have great potential for GW to release again, and one of the few alongside Necron and (previously) Deldar that will have every player rejoicing about, even if it's only a book release.

I would be happy to play against a LatD army if the accompanying 3rd edition Chaos Codex was used as well for all the extra stuff. Because LatD was really meant as an extension of the 3rd edition Chaos Codex and doesn't quite make sense in any other context.

For my own part, I wanted to do a LatD army but couldn't get the Chaos Codex that went with it. So I started on a Vraks 2 army instead. And I am doing a Chaos Renegades force like the one from White Dwarf #107 using Codex Witch Hunters.

I'd be fine with it, especially as its not exactly easy to abuse. That said, there are the very similar and much more up to date Vraksian renegade lists from IA:V/VI/VII that are absolutely wonderful.

Come to think of it, the LatD army is currently the only one without a true proxy. 13th Company can easily be used with the Space Wolves Codex (especially with 4 Rune Priests, since the 13th has alot of those and it's still very competitive), Cadians are basically the new IG codex, and I never got the difference between the uthwe strikeforce and a normal eldar force, except the lack of tanks.
