Is the current apoc book based on 4th ed or 5th?

5th i think.
I haven't seen it recently but afaik it just builds upon whatever the current rule set is. With a few changes from special rules.

So they update it every four years with each new set of rules then?

I don't think so. At least not yet.
Apocalypse is a relativly new thing. (I think it was built to replace Epic somewhat)

Apocaypse was 4th edition but afaik it can be used just as easily in 5th.
I just checked it.

Apoc was designed for 4th, but it can be very quickly adapted for 5th, as very few changed are needed (mostly for specific datasheets, strategems, etc)

There are a few differences, like according to Apocalypse Hydras are 200 point legendary units, but these differences are rather rare. GW still releases alot of new datasheets, that are really quite fun.

Apocalypse Reloaded was written in the 5th Edition, but I'm not sure on the specifics of the contents since I havent read the book yet.

I just really want to know how much it would conflict witht he current rule set, I'm looking forward to getting it very soon.
Some questions I now have knowing that the first book was written in 4th/for 4th(?)
Are the special rules conflicting/non-existent anymore?
Do any of the point values conflict with the other codex?
Are there any changes/FAQ that go with it to make it go smoother with 5th ed if there are conflicts with rules?

The Baneblade in the Apoc book somewhat conflicts with the current IG book, since there is no longer a "Vehicle Armory" you no longer have the point costs for the vehicle upgrades, unless you own the previous edition of the IG book.

Well with that one, I think you just go with the IG codex.

I think a bigger problem would be the 'Lord Castellan's High Command' Apoc Formation, simply because the Advisors don't exist anymore, so you can't buy Sanctioned Psykers or Commissars for the CCS anymore, and the Heroic Senior Officer rank has been removed. I honestly have no idea how'd you play that unit with the 5th ed IG codex.

Some ofthe formations may need changing or simply ignoring. If you're gonna play a competetive game then make sure everyone knows what's what.

I have a hard time seein Apocalypse being played competitively...Apoc always shot me as the ultimate friendly game, just grab whatever you can, throw it down and fight to the death! Seriously, the 'no FOC, free allies, and all kinds of other rules seem to make it so that it's not really a game fit for a competitive match, I'd think.

Apocalypse was written when 4th edition was out.

Apocalypse Reloaded was written when 5th edition was out.

They're 2 different books. However, both have excellent (and different) datasheets and strategic resources.

When point costs or rules conflict, go with the codex first, then go by the most recently published book.

Does that help?

Unfortunately, that means in Apoc Hydras don't have the AA Weapon special rule anymore.....

You could always make another data sheet with them in it...

Yeah. But I think the Hydras in the Apoc book are more expensive, aren't they. I'd let my opponent pay more for the AA option in the Apoc book.

Yeah, in Apoc they're 200 pts a model, as opposed to the nice 75 they are in the IG Codex....I don't think an AA targetting system is worth 125 points, othewise I'd be in full agreement with you.

Ouch! Yeah, that's a huge upgrade cost.

There is a Space Marine LR variant (the Helios, I think) that can change it's whirlwind missile to an AA missle platform for 50 points. I think that would be a more reasonable cost for the manticore. The LRHelios loses the ability to use it in non-AA, though.

It's a Heavy 1, right?

The Hydra? Nah it's 2 twin linked autocannons. And I'm guessing you mean Chimera or something? Cause a Manticore is already a 160 pts on its own...

In any case, when I play Apoc, most people are fine with Hydras having AA. I mean, their unit desctiption is the 'Hydra Flak Tank' and all its fluff talks about how awesome it is at killing aircraft, so yeah.

This does greatly help!
Anything else that can be said/discussed about specific units would be great!
As for t he current tank your talking about, kinda sucks that they removed one thing and the point value went so far down that if you used it now and its old point value, it wouldn't be worth it. I personally would let my opponent take the AA forr 50-100 more points or something? Not sure I'd have to see the stats of it in the current dex.

The Baneblade entry in IA1update has superseded that - the options are now explicitly listed as per all the new codexes.

That and all those options are still listed in the IG codex, just under various vehicles, but with the exception of camo netting, has the same price across all units.

IA Apoc 2 also has excellent ideas for updates to APoc to make more sense in 5th ed, and more missions than the standard Apoc mission.

Well worth a buy, as it has some gorgeous artwork in it and is reasonably priced to boot!

Hmm, my only problem with IA is that I keep hearing it isn't allowed at a tournament.
