Hello everyone, I am thinking of making an explorer type character for DnD. I can not find a class that fits the idea I have. The best way to explain it is a mix of Columbus and a conquistador. I am looking at ranger or rouge but niether are a perfect fit. Has anyone else tried this concept. Any 3.5 book is a go.

You can build just about anything out of a rogue.
But give us more info on what you expect the character to be able to do.

well the era for the campaign is about renaissance, so like a musket and pistol wielding dungeon delver. But still be able to know things, like history, geography, languages.

I think that might be it. Probably will multi-class for some stuff.
Thanks for the help.

With weapon finesse, your high dex will contribute to hitting with either weapon. Having lots of skill points will make you very resourceful. If you don't intend to make a thief out of your rogue (and there is no reason to; the rogue is amazingly versatile) you should let your fellow PCs know. Otherwise they will whine to no end when you can't pick a lock or disarm a trap.

You could pull it off with a rogue going into a duelist later, would have to focus on light armor, rapier and hand crossbow/pistol

Make a human swashbuckler then take that nice bonus feat for bieng human for a weapon proficiency for the blackpowder weapon of choice, and as well if the campaign may focus on exploration, on a boat or otherwise take a look at the stormwrack book

Grab a copy of Tome of Battle. Pick anything from there, figure out how it works as an explorer.
You'll be way happier if you take an idea you like and rationalize it to a class you'll enjoy than taking a class you aren't super pumped about and fitting it to an idea you love.
If I want to play a zealot who madly fights for their god I don't go with a Paladin. I play a Barbarian who doesn't rage, they go into a state of religious ecstasy in the midst of battle. Or my mad inventor who had a gadget for every occasion, Artificer? Nope! Bard, whose songs were actually things like the confuseoraytor to slow down enemies in battle or win the hearts and gold of shopkeepers.
