Subject: Non-GW models in GW tournements

Hello,
Odd Question. I'm planning on entering the Throne of Skulls tournement next year. But I have heard mention a few times that models must be manufactured by GW.
I have just downloaded the rules from the GW website and it does not say anything about it, just that the army should be painted. I have thunderwolves in my army so i need to bottom out exactly what the ruling is and where it is written down. I don't want to pay out for the ticket then not be allowed to play for using the wrong models.
Does any one know where the rule is written down, or is itsomething you find out after buying the ticket?
any help will be much appreciated.

GW tournaments (Like 'Ard Boyz) generally come with a ruleset saying that models in use must be at least 50% citadel models - meaning that if you kitbash something, at least half the parts come from something GW related.

Hiya,
The rules for GW tournaments were (and I assume still are) that at least 75% of the model has to be made up of GW parts, the other 25% can come from anywhere.
There is one exception to this, and that is that because of the terms of their license with New Line Cinema you cannot use any Lord of the Rings models in your conversions etc, not even components, for anything other than Lord of the Rings games.
So basically as long as the majority of the base model is a GW one then it's normally OK, which allows the use of things like Pig Iron Heads or Chapter House tyranid bits etc.
However being Thunderwolves I would imagine the third party part of you mini makes up more than 25% of the model, meaning under the rules you wouldn't actually be able to use it.
This sucks as GW don't produce a model for this yet, so maybe call Warhammer World and check first.
If I remember rightly the info for this can be found on the warhammer World section of the GW website rather than in their tournie packs.

nice one thanks for youe help both. I found the more detailed rules in the warhammer world bit. Its still not perfectly clear but does state that the models need to be GW or FW so that pritty much rules out my models Which is annoying.

I would call. They used to not have a model for drop pods and they let people use those scratch built in tournys at the time. I think if they dont have a model it voids that speculation (espeacialy if you use a GW space marine rider).

seriously... if GW doesn't want to support the tournament side of the hobby, we shouldn't support GW

That logic sort of falls down a bit, because GW is throwing some pretty massive support to Indy GT's.)

If you call and check, they might be OK with this, given that GW doesn't currently produce a model for it (other than the HQ wolf rider).
For example, in fantasy people are converting their skaven Abominations... so if you used slightly more 3rd party parts, it would probably be more likely to be OK since there is no model for it yet.
Definitely check with the TO of the tournament and see what their specific ruling is on it!

And the OP is in the UK where GW has plenty of official events.

Good call. My understanding is that they have historically allowed it for kits they do not make, though they usually want to see at least some proportion of GW parts/bitz in there.

Well it was a no from games workshop. Conversions only. So Don't think i will bother with any of there events. I've spent allot of money on my thunderwolf cavalrys I can't be spending that again on more models to make conversions, especialy at their prices.
