I tried searchy but I couldn't find the answer to my question.

Im working on a small list and normally I field 2 Defilers, but I need to shave some points. Now 1 defiler just will not do, he wont survive turn 1. So i was thinking 3 Obliterators and save me 75 points. Now my question should I field them in one squad or 3 separate squads. 1 squad of 3 will be a target the the enemy will focus on, but 3 different targets means that they will have to spread their fire hopefully giving them a better chance. I can put each in cover at a nice distance and fire away. Has any one done this and how did it work out.

It depends on how many KP the rest of your list has, and whether you can afford to put them in individual units each.

Tactically having three separate units is almost always better, but an extra 2 KP may make annihilation missions more difficult for you.

Also the heavy section of the chaos codex is its most powerful, so if you are looking to save points I suggest you look somewhere else and dont scrimp on obliterators.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Good one I forgot about KP.
I pretty much have a rhino rush with 4 rhinos (2 zerks, 2 CSM) and outflank Chosen (in rhino). But I dont have enough points for an HQ if i have 2 defilers.

behind you!

three in seperate squads. this gives you more flexibility in your shooting phase and more resilience in your opponent's (shooting at a squad of 1 obliterator the maximum he can kill is 1; shooting at a squad of 3 the maximum he can kill is 3)

kill points are only 1/3 of the missions. they're almost never a consideration for me.

either run them skimpy or trim down the squads some. Not too much of a choice

besides as AF mentioned it gives alot of flexibility in your shooting phase

If you play P/S/T style tournaments kill points is almost always one of the objectives.

Aside from kill points, and using up all your heavies, it's a good idea. And 1 oblit is easy to hide, 3 is not. Although you have more kill points you might be able to preserve them better.

A hidden disadvantage to solo Oblits is large plasma volleys against grouped up squads; these are much more effective if fired all at once, ala a full squad of 3, rather than one at a time after previously killed models can no longer be 'hit' again.

But I rate this as a pretty minimal point overall; I would take single Oblits or an AC/las pred+Oblits rather than a single full squad.

I like the idea of using them singularly... you can place them in reserve and every so often, because they can deep strike/teleport, you can land near something and blow it to bits... hopefully!

And becasue they are relentless you can pretty much go where you want until your oppo kills them. Which will also draw fire from your rush!
