On a hate rampage.

Do you think people get too serious about the game? I've seen people freak out over it because people won't listen to them. I admit, I get annoyed and carried away as well, but there's a difference between

Me- "The templates over 3" "It's over 4" "3" "4" (Getting louder)
and
Someone else (Experienced by me)- "That eldar attack just isn't very good" "Well it obviously is! It uses the big template!" "It's still terrible" To which he replied with "OH MY GOD SHUT UP IT'S EPIC AGAINST EVERYTHING"
--I did nothing to anger him besides try to start a 40k related debate-
Calm down, it's a game! It's to have fun! Ya stoopid...

Anyone have thoughts on this? Or is it just me?

That is neiter helpful nor does it contribute anything to the discussion at hand. Unless I am seriously mistaken, mods dun take kindly to spam 'round these 'ere parts, sonnyboy.

Anyway, in my local gaming group people are usually pretty calm. Obviously we have rules discussion but it's usually kept to this:

Player 1: Statement.
Player 2: Disagreement.
Player 1: Further disagreeing.
Both checking codices/rulebooks/what have you.
Both agree to an answer.
If answer is unclear, compromise.

Some people just need to take things down a notch. Sometimes in the dying moments of the game if it's a win or lose situation I might contest that sort of thing, but I'm not going to throw a hissyfit. Jackasses taking things too seriously isn't anything new though.

To the OP: I would just not bother arguing with children. Just restrain yourself from swearing and focus on the other adults in the room until the kid's mom picks them up.

If you're in a tournament game with one, I generally find that you can just let them have small things like claiming one more guy is covered by a template, then still beat their backside at the game. Afterward, if their parent is not present and you feel that the kid is intelligent/mature enough to take constructive criticism, you can give them some polite feedback about ways to be a better sportsman. If the parent is there and witnessed it, you're better off not bothering; it's their job to teach the kid better, and they might take offense if you try.

Guys take this seriously its a serious thread!

Yeah I get carried away, but only when my opponent is being a git, like once, an orbital bombardment was over a defiler and a chaos sorcerer, but my opponent said that it wasnt. Everyone knew the OB would instant death the sorcerer, and everyone could see it was over him, yet my opponent refused to move him.

I allowed it, and crushed him with 18 terminators not to much later.

If someones being an a-hole, crush them.

Lol... nah man, i was at my first tournament last year and some guy (il assume mid 40s) yelled at me for 'not telling him what i was rolling'... even though I did and he just wasn't listening.. "dude im 18 this is my first tournament im not even winning!" "NO, NO there is a 1 in that pile of dice" "yea i already was moving them to pick them up and roll for wounds..." "NO, no just no... and you didnt even tell me there was a chaplain in this squad, i didn't kno, awww man!!" Smh... but then again not everyone is like that, a lot of the people i met were real cool and fun to play against, even in competetive setting if you can laugh when you play then it just makes it that much better, if ur oppenet takes it over the top, then dont play against that person next time

I realized 40K and GW players in general are too serious and overly anal in a LOT of situations.

I see the 40K rulebook FAQ/Errata. 99% of it is just common sense, but the 40K scene (especially tournaments) are so over the top that people will try to use any slight ambiguity to gain an advantage, instead of simply applying common sense.

It is one of those reasons I prefer Battletech and that community to this one. BT is just more laid back and sensible in most cases.

This is a game.

I like when people take it way too seriously though, it just amuses me all the more.

I beat someone in the third round at Ard Boyz who got so mad that they picked up one of their rather expensive models and dashed it to bits on the floor.

@all: Posting one or two words at a time is almost always just spamming or flame baiting. These are both against Dakka rules. If you have nothing more than spam or flamebait to contribute to a thread then you actually have nothing at all to contribute. In which case you should not be posting in the thread. And, if you decide to do it anyway, you are breaking Dakka rules. Please take the time to review Dakka's rules via the link in my signature. Thanks!

Well I take it serious to a point, I think everyone needs to; but also we have to keep in perspective that we are playing with glorified models. In response to the example you gave, I think that situation warrants an argument of some sort. If you say 3" and im saying 4", that could the difference of losing a few more infantry units which is a big deal. I wont sit back because im easy going and say, "even though your wrong about the measurements, go ahead an obliterate my unit...its alright." I dont spend insane amounts of money on the hobby to be lax with the rules.
