So I'm acquiring some Orks with the AoBR starter set for Christmas this year and have been pondering many different armies to work toward when I get the cash for it.

I always end up thinking either Kan Spam, Green Tide OR this idea thats hankering at my brain as of late, an incredibly burny Ork army.
Not for major competitive scale, not on any scale of that really, just for fun games.
But would this even be possible with the current codex?

I mean, from what I read the only things that I can throw Burnas/Skorchas on a few things out of the Ork army.
What bumps up the numbers are the possiblity of Kombi-Skorchas here there and everywhere, which sadly only get one shot of it though.

So I ask those knowledgeable in the Orky field, are Burna/Skorcha armies even viable?
Or should I drop the idea?

I mean, the idea of potentially an army full of flame templates could be a whole lot of fun, throw in some anti-tank units and lootas and I could have a blast, whilst toasting everything in sight.

Thanks in advance

Yes you can, be a really fun list but AV and range will hurt you.

45 Burna
2 Big Mek w/ Burna (and KFF)
9 Warbuggie w/ Skorcha
2 Deff Dread w/ 2 Skorcha each
9 Kan w/ Skorcha (I would make then Grotzooka and Rokkits myself)

There you go. That could be you whole army but you would have no objective holders.

P.S. 2-3 units of Gretchin would fit good into this list.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

The "total burna" list doesn't work as well now that burnas don't get 2d6 AP, but it's still a really fun list. Just make sure you've got plenty of walkers to use as anti-tank.

That was kinda what I was working with, or something along those lines, lots of Burnas and walkers with some cheap units to hold whatever objectives I can.
I'll probably work toward something like that.

I had a quick read over that whole thing and it is pretty much what I'm going for, lots of helpful pointers there

Was hoping someone would say this, I LOVE Ork walker units, the Deff Dread is probably my favourite GW model tbh.
And Kans are fairly awesome too, though I would probably use a rokkit or grotzooka on a few of them just to keep it mixed up enough, but still have the majority carrying Skorchas.

Thanks everyone, this has given me a lot of push behind it.
Now to just work out paint scheme and such and wait till Christmas comes along for my first Orks

A 45 burna ork list absolutely needs 3 battlewagons to carry the burnas.

Not so much for the extra speed.

Not so much for the anti tank of deffrollas.

The wagons are needed so they can be painted cherry red and converted into fire engines for the ork fire department.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

This is a grand idea.
I kinda wanted a Deathskulls army but they don't fit in with my arsonist orks idea.
Hmmm. Might just have to use the AoBR boyz to work out a paintjob.

A 'fire truck' army sounds very fluffy and amusing - the orks have heard of or seen Imperial fire fighters (military or civilian) and rather misunderstod the concept, but were naturally very impressed by the brightly painted vehicles, so decided to imitate them Would work for either a blood axe or speed freek klan.

A darn shame that basic boys squads can't take burnas any more :(

You could take a unit of nob bikers with kombi-skorchas and a warboss to make them scoring. You lose one dread/unit of cans, but makes for a nice unit.

Hmm... I do like Bikers, especially when they can be a scoring unit and zoom around and smash stuff up or burn it down.
I have so much to ponder on.
I think I need to write up a mock list so I can at least understand what I want to buy.

I actually picture orks looting civilian fire engines because they are big, loud, and red. They already come with a red paint job and one hell of a boarding plank. Every ork arsonist would love to hop on a fire engine, though many would die when they xperiment by filling the water tanks wif promethium and attempt to turn the hose into the mother of all burnas.

Someone needs to make this army. NOW

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I would LOVE to do this... I mean... I wonder how well I could convert toy fire trucks from Kmart and stuff to be orky and insane.
Use them as Battlewagons haha

EDIT:

Was wondering, does anyone know if any Big Mek sprues come with Burnas or do I have to do some conversion work to give him one?
