So Planetstrike has been around for a fair ol' while now so what are peoples thoughts on it?

Was it a worthy addition to 40K which you still play or was it just a passing fad? Obviously it was more successful and more enjoyable than Spearhead () and it similarly doesn't have the popularity of Apocalypse but I'm wondering if people still play Planetstrike and what they think of it?

It seems like good fun and worth playing every now and then if not to mix things up a bit, I can understand it not being the most popular of additions but it appears to be worth dipping into every now and then...

So; Planetstrike. Your thoughts?

I wanted to play it, but none of my friends would: as soon as they saw what my daemons could do in it (deep strike and assault the same turn) they all refused to ever play. Sad day, I still want to try it...

Look it up, it looked like a blast to play (to me)...but as I said, I played only daemons when it came out and my friends saw the big new rule that units that have the deep strike rule can assault the turn they deep strike and automatically refused to play. There were some broken rules for it, but...it looks awesome. Just nobody I know plays it.

Its fun. Only thing I did not like about it is that each player I've played in it is a douche.

It sounds like a lot of fun. My local GW has a battle board which is escalation, and I think 1500 or 2000 is planetstrike, so it gets played every once in awhile, though I have personally never witnessed. I think it requires a little too much in buildings, which people are less willing to invest in over models.

Played it a couple times when it first came out, but haven't played much 40K really since it came out.

Ah Planetstrike. The game that sets itself up to be this grand battle between attacking and defending forces across gorgeous terrain and fortifications... and then defeats its entire purpose by allowing the attacking side to bypass all the defenses by Deep Striking everything.

If there was ever - ever - a singular example of GW's endless knack for having great ideas but being completely unable to execute them successfully, it would be Planetstrike.

And to make it more amusing, the people who dropped Planetstrike the fastests were GW themselves. The month after it came out we get Planetary Empires. And then soon after that was Space Hulk I believe. Apoc hung around, but with Planetstrike it's almost like GW forgot they made it...

Apoc got some really nice attention. A RELOADED book, more models, and consistently new (although not updated) Datasheets. Every other expansion kinda died out in the end. I think it's because Apoc was the last book to actually contain new units. None of the newer Expansion books really gave us anything new, just different ways to play the game we all knew (and me and friends were already playing apoc-style games before the book came out, the only appeal to me was the ability to field superheavies and titans). Spearhead still has some light due to allowing you to field some crazy choices and superheavies in normal, non-apoc games.

Planetstrike IMO was a very good addition. It seems just silly to me that people would refuse to play because of the deepstrike special rules in PS. The defenders have their own pretty cool strategems, not to mention the ability to set up the entire table themselves... So you wanna deep strike everything? Thats just fine, wait until I set up the table to make that virtually impossible

Planetstrike all comes down to cheese... If your opponent wants to be a cheesy douche, so can you. But that only ruins the game, play it sometimes with your buds, its a blast.

Ah, planetstrike. Some good times when it first came out. Definitely only for giggles playing though. I've had/seen too many situations where the game actually ended first turn and epic silliness did occur often.

During a huge megabattle(8 players per side) Flamestorm destroyed 3 bastions and I(on the attackers team) got the remaining 2 on the first turn(Zerkers Meltabombed one and a Vindi shelled the other). Attackers win, but we kept playing; allowing the defenders to keep rebuilding the(now weaker) bastions on a +4 each turn.

I also witnessed a game where a DE player insisted he had to be the attacker(Old codex). His opponent agreed RAW and, as defender, left the field entirely devoid of terrain and placed his army in reserves. The DE player gets his entire army onto the terrainless table the first turn and the defender proceeds to blow his(coverless) army away. Totally legit, but the DE player was rather annoyed.

I always thought the defenders had too much of an advantage in placing the terrain. But, then again, I guess most shops aren't luck enough to have as much terrain to use as my local GW does.

I've only been here a week and I know what it is. I have yet to play it though. Love the Aegis Defense lines and there +4 Defense bonus.
