Switch to Daemons and bring Skulltaker
No, in all seriousness, a punisher Leman Russ-20 shots at it when it only has a 4+ invul save will kill it pretty quickly. Or a lot of heavy weapon lascannons. Also, if you have any poisoned guns, such as SM Sternguards' special ammunition (I'm not 100% sure on what the IG codex has) that will drop it quickly too. Hopefully that helps (minus the Skulltaker part).

I'm not quite sure what the Medusa does-I'm just going based on what I have fought. If you had 3 punishers though, I think that's about 500 points or so, but it'll unleash 60 S6 shots, and at least 30 will hit, 5 should wound, and it'll take 2-3 turns using basic math hammer. You should probably have about 2 turns of doing that...so that should work unless they block it with monoliths. That's just the best thing that I can think of, based on what I've seen so far of the codex.

5 and 6 will still yield the same To Wound roll. Only S4 cant harm the C'tan.

Blast Shots probably wont work that well against C'tan, since they ever only score one hit. If Al Rahim could wound him, then he would be a great asset. However he cant, so he isnt.

Lascannons and sniper fire.
You either wound on 3+ with the lascannons or pull dirty sniper tricks. The new DE are going to make C'Tans sad pandas too with poisoned 4+.

3 Heavy Weapon Squads outfitted with Lascannons can probably kill the C'tan in one or two turns (each 3-man squad can statistically inflict one wound per turn on the Ctan, so statistically 2 turns should kill one). To top it off, 3 such heavy weapon squads are actualy 55 points cheaper than the Nightbringer, so you could spend the points your opponent used to buy his NB just to get this squad to kill it, then use them to pop his Monoliths or warrior squads.

Well, I'm passing the codex to 3 of my friends for xmas presents since they are sick of the crappy old rules. So I just wanted to get some more feedback on whether it was useful for them Take your time, you have until X-mas. Then I'll start getting grumpy. haha I think I hijacked your thread Samius. Sorry

Sniper rifles are proprbly your best bet, that flying bastard can shrug off most heavy weapons with a simple 'meh' with his Invulnrable Save. Automatically Appended Next Post: Eldar Rangers can take 'em down given enough time.

Well, we know he can shrug off most of the blasts, which is why we were talking about a bunch of heavy weapon squads eventually wearing him down. But yea, snipers are great. My Eldar snipers have dropped squads of thunderwolves. Oh, that was a happy day

Heavy weapons take to long to kill the Nightbringer, giving it plenty of time to float his ethereal ass around and butcher your more squishy troops (i.e all of your infantry). Snipers can more efficiently take it down for a smaller point value.

make it a big squad of ratlings. They're what, 13 pts/model? (if memory serves me correctly). Take 10. or a couple squads of 10. More, if you can take more in a squad. At that cost, it would take 3 squads of 10 to equal the nightbringers cost. And if they can take him out, the rest of your stuff is cheap enough that those ratlings are points well spent.

As someone who regularly plays against necrons as IG, my advice is (and im sure you get this enough) just don't bother. It's a total waste of resources that should just be put towards phasing him out.
However, if you're intent on it, like people have said, lascannons are probably your best bet I think because they can be used for other stuff too.
Primaris Psyker can be extremely useful too if you roll well.
Snipers are nice, but not my favorite. Ratlins are cheap but they're woefully ineffective from at least my experience. You need a bunch if you ever want to hurt anything.
If you really just want a designated c'tan killing block to just cancel out the points, like someone said, get a bunch of ratlings.
The best way is to droppod a squad of sternguards within rapid fire distance and hellfire the feth out of it- dead turn 1
Taking that as not an option.. It'll be annoying.

Hopefully that helps (minus the Skulltaker part). No. Just..No. Don't listen to this man. You need a 6 to wound him at T8, which means you'll score less than a wound per turn... Try spamming lascannons and autocannons and hope you get lucky. Snipers, eh? Yeah, you can take ten of them for like 100 points or so, which is pretty good, since the rest of the elites section is utter garbage. Go do that
