I am attempting to decide if i want to play IG, and in order to test them i would enjoy getting a few lists from all you experienced IG players out there. SO the idea is a fluid list, not a 3 infantry platoon with a bunch of artillery. Something more maneuverable, and less models to field would be awesome.
Thanx

If you want mobile, low cost, low count, infantry; take vets instead of platoons, and mount them in chimmeras.
Then back it up with more tanks, some hellhounds and sentinels and you've got a little bit of everything.

Pretty much what Kenshin said, but plasma vets are equally viable. Also, Leman Russes are more manoeuverable than artillery, so think about bringing some vanilla russes, demolishers and executioners.

It is possible to field a fluid infanttry list also. Check ou ailaros's battle reps. You blob em up with comissars, and max out on special weapons, pw's, and melta bombs. They can move shoot and assault. Reinforce with hw squads for covering fire, and you can have a versatile force.
Or go the route most of us went and run vets in chimeras. They need backup in the form of LRBT, artillery, or vendettas

If you're like me, you'll get tired of moving blobs of infantry and go mech. However, the "Power-Blob" tactic is tried-and-true for most situations... Especially against Deathwing armies (they don't have enough models to counter this very well, you can literally drown them in guardsmen).

I've found adding mortars to blobs a good idea. They are dirt cheap, and when you need to park on an objective, it's nice to throw out 3 to 5 S4 blast markers indirectly.
They will payoff in spades should you face an opponent with blobs of his own.

Huh, I never thought of that before. If I put heavy weapons in my blobs, I usually chose ACs or MLs, but I could see how mortars could be useful!

Do you have IA8 raid on kastorel novem? It has the ellysian drop list in it; I think this is what you might be looking for. At 1000 points, 4 valkyries and a vulture gunship. 3 vet squads with HF, demolitions and meltaguns. CCS. End of. It lets you have valkyries as troop transports; I think this might be the fluidity that you are looking for. Plus, the troops can be decked out for anti troop / CC, which is what troops are generaly best at. Just a little something to consider.

I would start with the Mech-Vets and then add models until you can also run a blob list. That is generally what I am doing currently.
