Any thoughts on what the best way to field globadiers is? I've 100 points spare in my skaven list and since I've got 15 converted globadiers handy I figured I'd give them a shot in 8th. Right now I've got 2 units of 5 in my list, for versatility and to act as throwaway diverts / speedbumps if it comes down to that. I don't expect them to do a lot beyond pounce on small armored units (knights, stank(s), depleted warriors) and monsters - which march-and-fire helps with - and throw into combats that my slaves / clanrats are locked into.

But then I was also thinking about 7 + death globe bombardier instead. Makes them a little more unwieldy, as well as a bigger target because of the increased threat to blocks and the higher points tag on the unit when it dies / runs away. But then also gives them what could be an awesome weapon vs blocks of armored bastards (warriors, also warriors), though the fact that it scatters makes me like it less.

Any experience with globadiers in 8th? Or the death globe, for that matter? I have a feeling a single unit of globies can be useful, not sure if I want to micro-manage two units or overly invest in the one.

Theyre pretty good due to no randomization in combat now with slaves. As long as you get into combat with expensive units they can cause lots of damage

Are they worth their points cost? Maybe not always but their biggest drawback imo are their awful models and $$ cost.. so if youve bypassed that might as well give them a shot

But the globes are still randomizing, right? Ala their own entry.

FWIW I actually really like the metal models, but definitely agree on the vomitous price.

Yeah.
-1 to hit if you stand and shoot.
-1 to hit for moving.
-1 to hit for long range.
-2 to hit for cover, if the slaves/clanrats block 50% of the enemy units, which happens pretty often unless the globadiers are out front, in which case they typically take a charge and die.

I found I was just as likely to hit myself as I was the enemy, and at 10 points a pop, they didn't last.
5 man unit/units with death globe works, because it's all about the death globe. Being a skirmisher, you can march and fire, and don't care about the possible -4 to hit.
It lets you stay safely ~15" back, and march up on your turn, and fire, dropping the globe into the middle of the enemy.

At 80 points for the 5 man with globe, and no specials slots, it's a pretty decent choice.
Without the globe, I'd leave them at home.

Keep in mind, that this is more expensive, and a single shot deal, compared to a mortar. You can fire into melee though, and often, you'll really want to.

As Globes are a thrown weapon, does the -1 for moving apply?

Anyway, they're not really for me, but I do like the models. They're pretty good compared with some of the older skaven stuff.

I thought they had the "quick to fire" rule, meaning no -1 for moving, and no -1 for long range....

struggling to find the rules though, damn sundays....

It's just no -1 for moving, and can allways stand and shoot.
