In the Soul drinkers novels there is a part where the chapter, led by the daemon posing as the emeror, head to a chaos corrupted planet to kill a chaos god/daemon. The descriptions of the daemons and the god/daemon match those of nurgle though I don't recall if they directly say it is Nurgle. anyway, the Soul Drinkers find and kill this daemon/god in the end. My question is, is this Nurgle? and if so, did he really die, or did they only kill his physical manifestation?

You can't 'kill' a Chaos God. Given that Angron took 100 Grey Knight Terminators to vanquish, I can only marvel at what it would take to banish a God, let alone vanquish him.
But, as far as I know, only a God can kill another God, hence SLaanehs was able to kill the Eldar pantheon, and the Emperor may be able to destroy the Chaos god....but hell that's all just speculation.

IMHO considering how hungry for money GW is, i would have thought they may have considered it as it would increase that marks popularity and lead to people buying them more.
It is just a thought though

Ok, thanks. I jus wasn't sure. As per killing angron, the yeas it took 100 Gre Knights, but the Soul Drinkers are mostly mutated almost beyond expression. They are definately more combat specialized in their physique than any other marine has been.

True, but even mutated marines don't fare well against greater daemons, generally. Certainly not against Daemon Primarchs, anyway. Whoo, that'd be a crazy fight.

It would take ALOT to do such a thing. Killing Nurgle would be quite the accomplishment. Though I doubt it would be really killing him, probably just his manifestation. Even that would be extremely hard, Nurgle would probably punch all his attackers with a really bad case of the Flu. REALLY BAD.

Where does that sig come from Sir Monty? And with the Fist of Dorn (I think that's what the artefact they haved is called) Even greater demons/primarchs shouldn't be the greatest challenge. I mean, two greater demons dead in one go is pretty good for Captain Sarpedon, albeit with high losses but...

It's the Void spear. They killed a greater daemon of Nurgle.

The problem often comes in getting through all the psychic defenses of daemons in order to get to the daemon itself. The Grey Knights are specially trained and selected to resist those attacks, which means that they can combat daemons on a more even footing.
Other chapters, and especially normal human armies would fare far worse against daemonic attack. Normal minions, cultists and even Chaos Marines are fine - most armies can combat them and that is what the Soul Drinkers mostly faced.
From what I remember of the Soul Drinker books, more Marines fell due to psychic attack than to enemy combat in the final storm of the Nurgle planet.
If they went up against a stronger daemon, or several of them, they would have been boned.
Especially now that they are not supported by one of the other chaos gods.

It is impossible to kill a daemon unless you destroy it's essence which is hard to do.
But the more powerful a daemon the harder it is to summon so it's all good.

As I recall only one daemon has been canonically 'destroyed', and that was Prophanatii in the Eisenhorn novels. All other daemons are just banished back to the warp instead of being slain.

I know off only one in all 40k law that will kill all chaos in real space, In Dark Apostle, the Word Bearers fight thought some off the hardest guard there is to build a doom bell tower and blow a hole into the planet that not really a planet but a world sized trays orange off necrons space craft. Then they battle to it core and take a weapon that will close down the astronomican and royal feth earth. BUT this will turn on the pylons on cadian and all over the universe closing the eye and wakening all the sleep necrons. So were royal feth both ways no chaos all endless undead soul eating loons
