I am developing heroes for a 40k campaign I am writing and will post them as I finish characters. comments and other homebrew HQ/ sargents welcome
the first of these HQ heroes is: 'uge Boss Spleen-Muncha
Ws Bs S T W I A Ld Sv
6 0 6 6 6 1 5 10 5+
wargear:
Really 'uge choppa (+2 S,+1 A)
Supa sheildy 'elmet (4+ invon)
Rulez
Grab Dat tree! (may elect to grab a tree during the shooting phase while within 3" of forest terrain, the tree counts as a 2 handed close combat weapon that gives +3 A and +1 S for the phase he assaults, he must then go get another tree because his strength broke this one)
Im gonna frow something big! (S 6 Ap 5 heavy 1 small blast with 12" range, it scatters d6 no matter what because of its short range)
scary figure (take Ld in movement phase if within 6" of him if you fail move away as far as possible if you pass you may stay where you are)
stubborn
monsterous creature
furious charge
(he uses a dred base cause hes so huge)
(200 pts)
((modifications of stats not included))

He's a lot over the top.
The stats are ok but the special rules are a bit OP.
Is the wargear inc. in his profile? If he uses the tree special rule does he lose his invun?

Make the "grab tree" rule only useable if he's within 3" of jungle theme terrain. Reduce his S and T down to 5

I think older versions of 40K used to be more hero oriented and would have stuff like this. It would be interesting to play a game or two and bring stuff like this back.
NOTE: I came into 40K after the super-power units started to disappear.

It's a blast. He can still place it, but he won't be able to reduce the scatter by any amount.

With a 1/3 chance of it not scattering at all - seems daft to me that a character with no skill in the use of missile weapons can place a projectile exactly where he wants it 1 in 3. I was sure there was a rule saying if a characteristic was 0 or - the model couldn't do anything with that skill, but I'm probably confusing it with WS 0 models getting hit automatically in an assault.
It would make more sense to me that the blast template always scatters the 2D6 (taking the direction of the small arrow on the hit symbol, if rolled).

What if it always scatters a full 2D6, but if he rolls a hit, it only scatters 1D6 in the direction of the little arrow?

regular 'bosses have T5- he has T4.
my proposed rules:
150pts
WS-6 BS-- S-5 T-5 I-2 W-4 A-4 Ld-10 Sv- 4+
One-handed 'uge choppa- +2S (not inluded in profile)
Supa fingy- force field, 4+ inv.
Feel no pain
Dakka blasta- S4 AP5 3" blast assault 1, gets hot!
Fearless
Oi, you!- If he is within 3" of an ork troop choice, he immediately throws it (instead of normal Dakka blasta shots). Remove that many orks from the unit.
throwing boys- S4, AP6, 3" blast, assault D3, range- 6"
grots- S3, AP6, 3" blast, assault D6, range- 12"
other- S5, AP5, 3" blast, assault D3, range- 6"
roll a D6. on a 4+ the boy survives and must be moved back into unit coherency in the ork player's next turn. Until then, place him on his saide- he counts as going to ground (must shoot at the rest of the unit first)

I'm sure there was one in the 40K/WHFB boxed sets before they went D6 only.

Yes, but I assume that lots of people don't own D4s. I sure don't.
I reckon that the OPs got confused between D4 and 4D6.
If he actually means D4, he's just being awkward.
