Check this out, George Lucas does it again, and by "it", I mean desecrate the memory of great movies and actors, in this case it's not his own movies though...

FROM:
http://geeksofdoom.com/2010/12/06/george-lucas-wants-to-digitally-insert-dead-stars-into-new-movies/

It’s no secret to anyone that George Lucas, the man behind the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, is quite fond of computer effects and digital enhancements. But could that fondness cross a line no one ever thought it would cross?

While speaking to the UK’s Daily Mail, famed actor, writer, director, and comedian Mel Smith — closest to my own heart as the Albino from The Princess Bride — shared a little secret about Mr. Lucas: that he’s been buying up the rights to dead film stars, with hopes of one day being able to digitally insert them into new movies with today’s stars.

Smith directed Radioland Murders, which Lucas produced, but wasn’t thrilled at how it turned out. He explained before sharing this little morsel:
The film was a disaster. George doesn’t understand comedy, so the movie flopped. At least it taught me how to use CGI. George is obsessed with it and used too much in the last two Star Wars films — which I thought were ghastly.

He’s been buying up the film rights to dead movie stars in the hope of using computer trickery to put them all together in a movie, so you’d have Orson Welles and Barbara Stanwyck appear alongside today’s stars.

There it is. But is it as absurd as it sounds? Would it really be unthinkable to take the many appearances and performances of legendary talents, and use today’s high technologies to bring them back to the big screen for new generations to enjoy? One of the worst things about today is that many of our youth don’t know or appreciate those who came before, and most of today’s hero’s and idols are an embarrassment to even think about.

You have to think that IF it were done properly and with the utmost care, it could be cool to see these fallen stars once again. On the other hand, it could be considered pretty sacrilegious to even ponder such a thing.

So what do you think — despite what your thoughts of Lucas are, would you enjoy seeing stars of old able to appear in new movies once again, or is that just a little too creepy to bother moving forward with?

A new day, a new time zone.

Call me skeptical, but the fact that it's a random internet site quoting the Daily Mail fills me with less than utter confidence at its veracity.

I already saw this story somewhere else yesterday, I merely "googled it" tonight to find a link from which to post it here. There are tons of other places you can read the same essential details. Doesn't anyone else on gamer forums know how to use the Internet for anything other than posting on gamer forums?

Methinks Mr. Lucas might have been reading too much manga lately, especially Naruto*.

*A character in Naruto can create zombie-ninjas!1!!

Still... Schwarzenegger isn't dead, but was too old (and probably too busy, or not) but was used to great effect (my favourite part of the movie) in Terminator:Salvation. Though I shudder at the thought of Lucas actually making a Godfather movie with Marlon Brando... Yikes!

I'm officially calling the idea of using dead actors in movies without their permission being possible much less granted a form of "Hollyweird Cannibalism". :(

Isn't this just making these "Legendary" actors accomplishments seem less important as they can just be revived through CGI, instead letting them dye peacefully with there achievements being remembered from generation to generation.

You know what I find interesting..My 8 year old could care less about star wars, and he would rather watch dragonball Z-kai or last airbender than clone wars. Very telling if you ask me because when I was his age I ate and breathed starwars.

Oh Puh-leeze!

One cannot DESECRATE something that was NEVER consecrated nor innately holy.

He can befoul, besmirch, despoil, sully* or just plain take a dump on it, but he can't "desecrate" these things.

*During our pre-marriage prep, I used this word to the priest who would be performing the service when asked why we were using an alternate venue and NOT the Catholic church in town. We needed a reason for a Catholic service in a non-Catholic venue.
I said that due to certain events, we felt that venue had been sullied and would not be suitable.
He said it was an unusual word. An OLD word. He used my exact wording to the Bishop. We got permission and a blessing from the Bishop for not reminding him of certain key events.

WTF? Someone took their literal pill today as well as their 'only my standards and beliefs get to interpret what is "sacred"' pill. Way to take a fun topic about the movie industry and go way, waaaayyyy off topic.

It's like Ted Turner "colorizing" old b&w movies. George Lucas has too much money, and too many cronies kissing his ass and telling him these are good ideas.

This falls under the category of "because I can, why do you care?" If you don't want to see it, don't go to see it. Futurama had a reanimated Orson Wells, they just didn't do as good a job with the CGI.

Im not sure how Ted Turner is going about that, but there are many movies/ tv shows that have been updated to color they just run it through a computer program and colours are added.
