Hey everybody. I am thinking of getting a fortress of redemption for Christmas and was wondering how I could convert it to look a little less DA. As I actually collect blood angels it should not be overly hard to give the winged statue a proper face with long, flowing hair. My real question is would it be possible to construct the fortress in a way that there is a central courtyard in the center? Any other conversion ideas are of course very welcome!

i think that "constructing" it with a courtyard would be the easy part, because it is set up in pieces (for easier storage) and so you could potentially set it up with a courtyard effect.

Looks like you can make a single Warlord Titan Leg from the pieces of a Fortress of Redemption.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

As far as the courtyard goes, buy an Aegis Defence Line, and use it to fence in the area you want to have be the your courtyard, with the Fortress forming the corners.

For a courtyard in the center you could also use the WH Mighty fortress. I am currently in the process of making this into Planetstrike terrain... will have pics by tomorrow.

Amazing work on the fortress!! That is just what I was looking for. Nice use of the Space Hulk grail and that marble effect is stunning. I never thought it would be so simple to make it look less DA.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! They help more than you can imagine

(very interested on how the WH fortress turns out Gunzhard!)

Thanks... yeah good eye on the Space Hulk grail hah... I made a GS press mold of it and put it all around.

The WH fortress is nearly done, being built that is. I'll put some un-painted pictures up today.

But yeah I found simply painting it red, made it not dark angels heh.

GS press mold eh? I might give that a go. All I need now is... ah yes, some GS that is not 4 years old!

Actually... most were done with GS and came out 'ok' but the one in the front, I did with Super Sculpey (the kind that you bake) and it made a much harder and better mold.

Build up a styrofoam hill to set it on and then use a Basilica Administratum set to build a wall for the courtyard- at the base of the hill- you could make it pretty large with that kit- plus lots of windows to shoot from. you would need to make stairs to get up the hill- i take foamcore and pile it up - i measure the shortest stair to fit a 30mm figure base and then the second shortest is two 30mm long and so on until i reach the height i want. hope that helps!

Sounds like a good idea lionshammer. I shall certainly take it into consideration!

I was thinking of replacing the tower with one made from four of the Eagle panels from the basilica.

CT Gamer- that is a cool idea- just the reason why I did not glue my tower onto the base- I figure i could change it over time and removing the top is a nice way to demonstrate that the center is destroyed!

Yes, a very nice idea. I do quite like the height of the original however.

Sorry about the thread necromancy in advance!

I have decided to go with the original layout of the fortress after all. The parts were not very easy to reassemble in any other way due to how the parts such as the walkway were constructed. Nevertheless, I think that I will mount the whole structure on a hill as it makes sense to me in that respect. I think that I will add smaller turret emplacements around the base of the hill as well.
