does this make sence to you ?
if you use old zogwort to squgify an etherial then he loses all his special rules including price of failure so because he has to be KILLED for it to work and zogwort REPLACES him it means, you can squigify him then kill him and the tau don't get to become fearless or take their ld check.

Why would anyone play an etheral in the first place?

Lukas would remove him as a casualty, however JoTWW would not as I recently found out myself.

Rules-wise: Do the ethereal's/victim's VictoryPoints get tallied when he goes squiggy? Or just when the 'angry squig under opponent's control' dies? And, fer sure, once the squig dies, the Price of Failure ought to kick in.

Fluff-unhelpful: Preferred Enemy granted, along with Furious Charge *without* morale checks.

It happens occasionally.

but he loses price of failure when he goes squigy and he needs to die to use it

Also Lukas cant be squigged, hes not an IC, and IIRC Zogworts curse only works on ICs

I still don't get why you would be taken an Ethereal anyway.

To make the game more challenging? Or maybe as a surprise tactic. The opponent is so surprised they will continuously make mistakes as they think "Why would he bring an ethereal!?"

Enough with why. Why he would or wouldn't take one isn't the issue here. Continually asking that with useless posts is completely off-topic.

After reading Zogwort's rule, I don't think you would get the benefits of the Ethereal once he's been transformed, or the benefits and penalties once the squig has been killed. Since the Ethereal has to die for the "Price of Failure" to activate, Zogwort doesn't do it. The Ethereal doesn't die, he becomes a Squig. Once the Squig dies, well, it's a squig dying, not an Ethereal.

So I don't think any Ethereal special rules or abilities apply once he has been transformed, regardless of what happens to the squig from then on.

Actually it isn't off topic because if he woulden't take the Ethereal in the first place he woulden't have to worry about Zogworts rule.

If I'm remembering the ability, you effectively replace the model with a squig, and now it's a squig with squig stats and squig abilites, nothing else.

Not familier with Zogworts rule/power, but isn't there a save for the model to not become a squig?

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

You just use the ability and then both roll dice, if the ork player wins the model is removed and replaced with a squig... and no wargear or special rules.

Well, you don't get the KP until the squig dies. So, I'd vote that the Ethereal isn't killed until the squig is killed. And, at that point, he doesn't have his special rule, so you don't it doesn't trigger and you don't have to make your checks.

And, to everyone who is asking why you'd take an Ethereal: This isn't the tactics forum. This is YMDC. This is a legitimate rules question and we don't need your attempts at derailing it.

Works on all IC's within range. As for the Ethereal, Zogwarts power says it REPLACES the IC with a Squig. The Squig has the following stats and rules. So no powers and no price of failure.

Grey Knights -2500
D'haran First File - 2500
D'haran Great Company - 1500

Always remember, the player must have a squig model to replace the IC with!
