well, many of you know that I am making a WIP heresy-era raven guard army using BA codex. I have made rules for the "Monsters" in the fluff. Corax and the few survivors of Istvaan returned to Deliverance. In the Ravenspire Corax brooded, desperately seeking a way to rebuild his legion, for the Imperium was on the brink of annihilation and the loyal warriors of the Adeptus Astartes were desperately needed, but the Raven Guard had none to supply. Delving into ancient lore, dating back to the advanced genetic processes used to create the first enhanced warriors that pacified Terra, Corax found ways to accelerate the creation of Space Marines and produce them at an astonishing rate. However the processes were also extremely dangerous and warned that terrible monsters could result. Nevertheless Corax was out of options and desperate to rebuild his forces. With a heavy heart Corax gave the order to the Apothecaries. The records of the first creations of the Apothecaries are sealed with oaths and sigils of immense power and none will speak of them, not the Raven Guard, nor any of their successors. The later creations are shrouded in mystery as well. The Raven Guard became very taciturn and isolationist during that period, fighting alone and invisibly, and few accounts from those times exist. One such tale is recorded by the Rune Priests of the Space Wolves. Unable to breach the walls of an Iron Warriors fortification after many attempts a force of monsters herded into battle by the black armored warriors of the Raven Guard smashed through the enemy, shattering the defenses in one charge and slaughtering all inside. At the battleās conclusion the monsters and their tenders disappeared. Barely one in a hundred of the Apothecaries creations was stable enough to become a Space Marine, the rest were twisted almost beyond recognition, drooling, insane monstrosities. Monster: 80pts heavy support choice. WS-4 BS-- S-6 T-5 A-3 W-3 I-4 Ld-10 Sv-4+ Fearless Feel no pain Monstous creature If a model is hit by the monster and survives, it is I1 for the remaining turn and must pass a morale check (-1Ld for the rest of the game) slow and purposeful extra CCW For every monster in your army you must take a unit of minders. 12pts Is looked after by a unit of minders: unit composition- 1 minder may take up to 2 additional minders for 12 points each: WS-3 BS-4 S-3 T-3 A-2 W-1 I-3 Ld-7 Sv-4+ giant mancatcher- these electified rods are larger versions of those used to keep dangerous prisoners in. This may also be used in battle as a two-handed power weapon (+1S, not included in the profile). When the monster falls back, the minders use the giant mancatchers. Re-roll the result and the monster takes a wound, armour saves allowed. edited.

JB: I like the concept of a free Shrike roaming through the treetops of the jungle. I'm not sure that I like the idea of a real Shrike sitting on my couch eating my Skittles.

greenskin lynn: because of all the skittles and soda, you basically live off sugar water, like some sort of freakish human-hummingbird hybrid. |

Wereguard are from Dornian Heresy IIRC. Is the 'monster' idea from GW canon? Haven't heard of it before now.

yep. apparently Corax used forbidden gene acceleration to make astartes quicker, but 99% of these came out as monsters, which were used in battle briefly, before Corax went and executed each one.

As the Legion started fighting alone, isolated from the other Imperial Forces, nothing is known for sure of the initial results, but an element of response came with the Space Wolves Saga of the Weregeld, which tells of ferocious monsters lead to combat by their Raven Guard Battle Brothers.
that was only info, that i was able to get from lexicanum

yeah "Herding them ahead of the main force to crush an iron warriors fortress..."
or something like that. Has anyone thought of any names or rule tweaks for them?

Weregeld? hmm rules... "If a unit is hit by the monster and survives, it is I1 for the remaining turn and must pass a morale check (-1Ld for the rest of the game) "
change that to " models that are hit" aka TH stun effect other than that its pretty much spawn on stereoids
