My buddies ChristianA and Steve and I played in another 1850 RTT yesterday at Black Diamond Games and had a great time again. Small turnout, only 10 players, but almost every player there had a very good list and was a skilled opponent so it was very challenging and fun.

Last time I brought a moderately competitive IG list and only went 1-1-1, so this time I brought my trusty Bjorn Wolves.

HQ:
Bjorn
Rune Priest: JotWW, Storm Caller

Elites:
Dread: L.Cannon, H.Flamer

Troops:
Grey Hunters x 5: Flamer

Game 1: Spearhead, Capture and Control
Opponent: Italiaplaya
Army: Fatecrusher Demons

HQ:
Fateweaver
Bloodthirster

Elites:
Blood Crushers x 6: Fully Diversified

Fiends x 6: Unholy Might

Plague Bearers x 6: Musician
Plague Bearers x 6: Musician
Plague Bearers x 6

Nurgle Demon Prince: Wings and various powers

Italiaplaya's Demons are nasty and he plays them well. I knew this would be a tough match-up if I didn't play a smart game. He and I played last tournament and I pulled a tie by the skin of my teeth. My army was much better suited to taking him on this time though. I deployed along the back board edges of my deployment zone and waited for the Demons to come. He did not get the half he wanted which was good for me as it meant Fate Weaver and Bloodthirster were on the sidelines. The game boiled down to me trading a squad for one of his heavy hitters, back and forth, as I stood and shot. I managed to get my Dread into combat with one unit of Blood Crushers and tie them up all game, and Bjorn into the other squad. He killed them all and then went on to kill Fate Weaver (who proved espeically hard to kill this game, soaking an obscene amount of firepower before finally losing all three wounds in one round of combat with Bjorn!). Bjorn is the man. Italiaplaya had smartly put his objective in the far corner from me and plopped two squads of Plague Bearers onto it. I sent three units across the board to go and challenge it but was unable to wipe the tough little boogers out. On my objective he landed a squad of Plague Bearers and despite dumping my entire army into them and assaulting was unable to kill them all by the end of the game. My army gave better than it got, but we ended up with a tie due to some uncommonly tough little Plague Bearers. It was a good game though, fun and tense. I ended up with 2 out of 3 possible bonus points.

Game 2: Pitched Battle, Seize Ground
Opponent: Usi
Army: Chaos

A rock solid Chaos list but a bad match-up for my opponent due to the terrain on the table. There was no LOS blocking terrain, it was a forest so everything was true LOS and area terrain which is great for my army. I also got first turn with Bjorn which pretty much meant the game was over before it had begun baring very poor luck on my part. By turn two his army was effectively crippled and we played it through turn 3 just to see if a miracle would happen but my opponent conceded at that point. I have played these types of Chaos armies numerous times in tournaments and my Bjorn Wolves always tear through them like a buzz saw if there isn't a big piece of LOS blocking terrain in the middle of the board. Chaos just lacks the firepower to stand and shoot with Wolves. Usi was a good opponent though and took it in stride, realizing he just got a bad match-up on a table that heavily favored me. Had he gone first, he would have had a shot. Full points to me which barely put me at the top table for the final round against a 2-0 Ork Player.

Game 3: Dawn of War, Annihilation
Opponent: Tim
Army: Orks

HQ:
Wazdakka
Warboss: Bike, Cybork, Squig, Klaw, Eavy Armor, Boss Pole

Elites:
Lootas x 9
Lootas x 9
Lootas x 9

Troops:
Shoota Boyz x 21: Rokkits x 2, Nob, Klaw, Pole

Diversified Nob Bikers x 6

Fast:
Deff Kopta: Rokkits, Buzz Saw

Looted Wagon

A solid Ork list and a crappy mission match-up for me as I had 18 fairly fragile KPs to his 11. I have played against Orks many times in tournaments with my Wolves and they always prove to be a tough match. Nob Bikers can really ruin your day but JotWW can obliterate them so I wanted to lure him into position to get a good shot off with it and hopefully tie them up with Bjorn. I got first turn due to Bjorn's reroll and deployed him and a squad of Grey Hunters 24" forward to force my opponent to start deep in his deployment zone. After seeing where he deployed one of the big Shoota Boy squads, I brought everything in on the opposite flank of the table to take the Shoota Boyz out of play. He tried to stand and shoot with me but I exploited the Lootas fatal flaw of low leadership and caused enough wounds to make two of the squads run off the board. He held back with his Bikers a turn too long which allowed me to focus on his easy KPs, giving me the lead. When he finally committed to his assault he was down 3 KPs and had to expose his bikers. I sprung my JotWW trap and....rolled box cars on the psychic check. Doh! I would have been able to take out the Warboss, Pain Boy and two other Nobs if it had gone off. So the Nobs got into combat with two squads of Fangs. His Looted Wagon also proved to be made of tough stuff. I pummeled the thing with Missiles but was unable to destroy it. I had it immobilized and weaponless but kept stunning the damned thing. His grot riggers fixed the immobilized result and then I immobilized it again, I just couldn't kill the stupid thing. By the last turn he needed to wipe out all three squads of Fangs (The only units in range for him) and take out Bjorn (who is worth D3 KPs) to have any hope of winning. He fired an entire Shoota boy mob at the last member of a Long Fang squad and the tough old bastard made every save! He then called his WAGGH! and assaulted Bjorn who had been immobilized and lost both weapons to Wazdakka's strength 8 "I can turbo boost and still shoot" gun. If he killed Bjorn in assault and rolled a three for his KPs he could still win. He assaulted, got a punch through Bjorn's Invul and rolled a 6. I made him reroll it with venerable and all he needed was a 3 to destroy Bjorn. He tossed the die and it came up a 2!

So I clinched the win 5 KPs to 3 in a tough game. If he had been more aggressive with his Nob Bikers and hid his easy KP's he could have taken me. He also played incredibly slowly, we only got 4 turns in which sucked for him as it meant less chance to get in close to me and do some damage.

I won the tournament going 2-0-1 and had a really good time. I recommend that anyone who lives in the area (East Bay, CA) come out and play. They have tournaments every month and both I have been to have been a blast. Christian ended up 4th this time with his Leaf Blower IG and Steve came in near the bottom with his brand new Dark Eldar army but he is still learning how to play them.

My Bjorn Wolves just keep proving themselves. I have yet to play a game where I have felt that they were just out-classed. Even in terrible mission/deployment match-ups I have still pulled a win or tie with them which is great in a tournament environment. A lot of armies have a match-up they really fear pulling but with this army I have not encountered that yet. It is a rock solid, take all comers list that you can play through it's weaknesses with a little practice.

Nice short reports.
What was the point against the Oblierator-heavy CSM army?
No terrain block LoS.
But the opponent had 9 Obliterators who can ruin your day.

Buildings with walls can block LOS and allow flying DP's and rhino's full of plague marines to move across the board unmolested.

A board with tons of trees (area terrain) afford the long fangs 4+ cover everywhere and slows their casualties vs. the Obliterator return fire.

Yeah, but still, the Oblits should be able to do a lot of damage to this SW army.

@Yermon
Thanks! It is a really cool group of guys that plays up here and almost all of them really good so despite the smaller size group, it is tough comp.

@Darth
Yeah, you said it. Walls allow those DP's and PM's to get into range, otherwise they are just sitting ducks. Rhinos don't completely hide DP's, so even with a 4+ cover they get wasted, and Rhinos can't weather a storm of 21 missiles.

@Wustenflux
The Oblits can only neutralize 3 targets a turn and my army has so many units it doesn't do that much to me. Most people don't shoot the Fangs as with cover they are too hard to take out while a Lazorback or Speeder can go down with a single shot.

@Zonder
This list is my go to Tournament list and it has done great for me. I think it is superior to Loganwing and Leafblower, but that of course is debatable. Give it a try if you have the models, it is a lot of fun. Just make sure there is plenty of LOS blocking terrain or your opponent won't last long.

That game with the oblits really surprised me. Oblits are pretty resistant to missile launchers with their 2+. I'm surprised they didn't do that much damage. They're the reason why I usually put a couple of lascannons with my long fangs (3 ML + 2 LC's).

Have you played vs. the new Dark Eldar with that list? If so, what were your thoughts and how did the battle go? On the one hand, it seems like your army has the missiles it needs to take down a lot of their threats, but on the other I feel like Venoms could be really brutal against an army that relies so much on Long Fangs.

@jy2
When I play chaos in an objective game target priority goes to the Demon Princes first, Rhinos second, Oblits last. The reason being that the DP's can ruin me in combat. They smoke dreads and will walk through everything else I have. The Rhinos need to die next to force his scoring units to walk and keep their meltas away from me. Then I can take away his ability to win the game.

The Oblits I target last and with my las cannons because as I said, they can only stop three units from shooting a turn, which in my list is not crippling. They are a big threat, but with las cannons and all of my units having a cover save through either storm caller or proper unit formations, they are not that bad.

@Kaiservonhugal
Yeah, but he really didn't need the KFF. The Nobs have their own cover save and the boys walked behind the nobs. Indirect Ordnance would have owned him, but from me everything had a cover save and having two Warbosses in the Nob squad really help to soak ID shots into the squad and keep them at full efficiency.

@Fetterkey
Not against the new DE, no. But against old DE, who play more or less the same, I smoked them unless they went first, in which case it was a coin toss. The thing is, Bjorn gives me a roughly 75% chance of going first, and with my fire power, DE get smoked fast. Venoms would be murder on LFs though, that is for sure. They would have to die quickly. That is a game I would like to play, actually.

I have only played the new DE once and that was against my bugs which got owned so hard. DE will just murder bugs and demons, it is a horrible match-up baring a lot of luck.
