So I fielded the Mad Dok today in a group of 25 sluggas boyz with cybork armor and it went really well. Being able to roll for an invul save and then roll for feel no pain is just awesome with that many boyz. It's a fairly expensive unit especially for ork standards but it took down an assault squad, a terminator assault squad and He'stan. It also did not charge, was charged by the assault who held them up long enough for the termies. The 5 man assault squad killed 1 boy and was destroyed at the beginning of my next round of combat, the assault terminator squad charged and lasted 2-3 turns in the last turn a 2nd terminator squad charged at the end of that turn there was maybe 12 Orks standing including the Dok and the Nob. Overall fairly awesome, think I'll bump that up to 30 boys the next game.

Guess it's weak spot would be getting shot with high Str weapons, ie; vindicators or any large blasts making you take lots of saves. Which is the norm for orks weak spots

Yeah tell me about it got hit with an orbital bombardment last night 25 pts for 12 dead orks.

But getting back to the Dok with boyz it is one hell of an investment especially by Ork standard. I ran 25 boyz, nob with PK so with the Dok that's 470 pts! -but they took out 520 pts of space marines and I am betting with have put the hurt on that last termie squad if not destroy it if we would have played another 2 turns. And in all since the dok and nob stayed alive only gave up say 15 boyz so 165 pts.

I've found just the doc + having a cover save really helps. What's really annoying is going the whole shabang with 4+, 4++, and fnp with a warboss attached and the doc, + nob with pk.

Use this unit to draw fire while your kommandos, koptas and other orky elements do their job. Most people won't know what hit them.

I have less then 5 games under my belt and this will be a new staple unit in my army, it was just amazing. KFF are great and all but I've had instances of them only saving 2-3 guys before they are in close combat for the rest of the game. But at this point I have only run the green tide

Grotsnik's weakness comes from One Scapel Short of a Medpack...a clever opponent can bait his unit into making unfavorable moves...like piling in to surround an empty Rhino or so...also, getting singled out and one-shotted by S10 sucks quite a bit...

I dont think using this would be called a weakness. You realize that any unit being hit by a vindicator ends pretty much the same way right?

Ill have to give this one a try for sure. I can see the benefits of 30 boyz with a 5++ and FNP save. That would be a tough one to whittle down for sure. Sure they can be lured in, but it also takes a bit more finesse then just saying "oh well Ill just lure them in" Also using a rhino to lure a mob that big isnt a big deal. Ive easily run over rhinos in the past with just boyz. The nob usually doesnt have to be bothered with it

I'd love to see others try it and report their results, for me it was simply amazing. I will take this unit in every list above 750 now. And about those saying that a rhino can suck you in, that is what lootas are for.

Or like I said, just krump the rhino. Its surprisingly easy for a big mob of boyz, and with all those saves, it really wont matter if theres anything inside of it.

I think it would be called a weakness, like my last line says a weakness all orks face ... although ignoring FNP ... makes them a higher priorty target with the high Str shot

Eternal Plague

You could stretch the boy line like a giant snake, effectively making it difficult to shrink the footprint of the boyz. As a dedicated assault unit, Grotsnik with 30 boyz, given a large investment in points, makes for an attractive target for an opponent to invest his time trying to destroy. So long as you have other credible threats coming from behind, it should work as a sound strategy.

Worst case scenario is that an opponent gets a unit from behind to be close to Grotsnik and forces him to run backwards towards it.

Yes but my point is, a Vindicator does the same thing to every army. You drop that plate on units, and they just ID all over the place. I wouldnt call that a weakness on that Ork unit, as its the same outcome on everything you drop that on. FNP or not. Hell dump that same shot on most HQ units, and youll get the same outcome. Not a weakness, its just a gun that does the same thing to whatever you shoot it at.

Mutilatin' Mad Dok

I love running mad dok, but the problem usually becomes spending too much points on a unit that gets tied up with a drop-podded dread. SM guys i face love drop podding dreads to pull my mad dok squad away from anything more important. I find it's usually more effective to just KFF a couple wagons & trukks/ keeps the plates off you for a fair bit

S'all fun and games until some no life troll master debates all over your space manz & ruins it for you
