I'm about to get on a play to Australia -- first time ever -- and have decided what to do during the long flight from San Francisco: watch old Starcraft tournaments on youtube from South Korea. I don't even play, either!

International flights, booze is free. Drink as much as you can and get 10% of your ticket price back. Also, a lot of international flights nowadays have about 20 movies you can choose from an individual monitor in the seat back in front of you. Watch 2012 in Korean after 9 beers. It's fun!

When we flew to Los Angeles direct from Brisbane 3 years ago I slept 20 minutes on the 17 hour flight.
Watched movies, TB, played games on the console. Madness!

Since forever on the better quality long-haul airlines like Virgin and JAL.
Mind you I have noticed in the past couple of years they have got less keen to offer the stuff -- I don't know whether this is a cost saving measure or due to increased drunkenness of the passengers.
You usually have to pay on the short hops even on 'national carriers' like Dannair and Lufthansa.

So what you really mean is: Booze is free on the expensive international flights where you have effectively already paid for the drink in the extra cost of your ticket.

Bring some books.
If you have a DS or other portable gaming system, that would also be a good idea.
Head phones and a itunes or other music player is also nice for when you're stuck next to Chatty Cathy. As a business traveler, nothing says STFU like putting on your headphones as they drone on and on.
Take it easy on the booze on a plane. A drink or two to relax you for sleep is ok. Getting annoyingly drunk might piss off the other passengers.
Enjoy your trip! They have hot chicks with awesome bewbage in Austrailia (or so I've been told on the interwebs)

Most of my long flights include ear defenders, an issued puffer jacket, sitting in a canvas seat eating, from a white cardboard box, some sandwiches that were made some 3 days earlier.
Ah, the pleasant and dignified way in which we travel.

Since forever. I've only paid for drinks on domestic flights. Maybe it is only trans-continental flights? Wait, when I flew from Newcastle to Amsterdam I pounded down 2 Amstels right quick and I don't remember paying. Then again, I was so excited about leaving Newcaslte maybe I forgot all about paying. lol

I second....or Fourth, how ever many people said a hand held game of some kind. Thats what I did when my daughter was born. I sat in the hospital for 4 days, so my DS really got some play time. At least my wife was on drugs most the time....not me...............endless trips to the hot chocolate machine and the DS

I slept on my last flight from Sydney to LA.
Of course, I hadn't slept in 37 hours prior to this. I knew my body clock would be put out of whack by the whole transiting thing - so I stuffed it up to start with.
Did the same on the way back.
Had a day to readjust and kept on going.
I was a younger man then. 15 years have passed since.
