Having always played green flavoured marines, this will be my first vanilla list. Looks a little bland, but I'm going for effectiveness. In particular effectiveness at the mid-field.
Can I get some thoughts and opinions on performance please?
Librarian; null-zone, avenger [rides with sternguard]
Sternguard (5 man); 4 combimeltas, heavy flamer, rhino
Dreadnought; asscan, heavy flamer, drop pod [basically a distraction/suicide unit to allow everything else to move up]
Dreadnought; asscan, heavy flamer
Tactical Squad (10 man); meltagun, missile launcher, combimelta, rhino [using the free missile launcher to combat squad and sit on home objectives if the need arises]
Tactical Squad (10 man); meltagun, missile launcher, combimelta, rhino
Tactical Squad (5 man); combiflamer, lasplas razorback
Tactical Squad (5 man); combiflamer, lasplas razorback
Landspeeder; multimelta, heavy flamer
Landspeeder; multimelta, heavy flamer
Landspeeder; multimelta, heavy flamer
Predator; heavy bolter sponsons
Predator; heavy bolter sponsons
1745 points.

HQ is nice.
Sternguard, meh not with heavy flamer as you'll get charged next turn - should be rapid firing and using that special ammo to make sure stuff is dead - not getting itno assault and bogged down or killed with 5 men.
Suicide Dreadnought is a waste of time because assault cannon isn't always going to do a lot with rending. Also costing 150 points is my maths is right, 150 points for a suicide unit - what's the point, doesn't even alpha strike properly anyway. Switch them both to 2 x autocannons.
First two Tactical squads are ok. Others don't work in las/plas Razorbacks because move 6" you can fire only ONE weapon, so either plasma or lascannon - you need to stay still to fire both weapons, plus you lose out on specials. Get Rhinos and fire out the hatch.
Cool speeders. Typhoons can work well.
Dakka Preds I've never been a fan off really, I prefer auto/las which can deal with armour and infantry well.

Would the sternguard operate better out of their rhino though? more guys is better, but useless if only 2 can fire out of the rhino a turn.
Instead of las/plas razors, how bout asscan razors and multimelta dreads?

People argue all day about the effectiveness of the Stronos pattern Razorback (Las/Plaz).
My arguments FOR it are:
A twin linked lascannon will miss 0.21 of the time, a single will miss 0.33 of the time. Its effectively 1 in 6 shots where you would have missed anyway, the TL makes a difference. To me not a MASSIVE difference compared to the benefits.
Additionally you have the chance to fire both if you stay still OR rapid fire the plasma guns, which are statistically better against AV 10 and 11 (as well as marines).
A lot of it comes down to what type of army you run, but the clincher for me is that a weapon destroyed result only hits one, which I find has been VERY useful in games.
I do agree about the TLAC for the dread though, they rock, but if going for the pod dread definitely change to a MM.
On Speeders I prefere MM+HF but again, thats choice.

How exactly is a Rhino useless? Two guys firing from the hatch could unleash 4 shots each or a couple of combi melta shots for example. You never want to get out the transport, unless you know you will not be shot at too much next turn - Rhino saves this.

Firing out of the hatch means that you are moving at >6 inch tho. When you disembark you increase your rapidfire range to ~32" thats pretty neat.
While staying in a rhino is usually a good idea being as categorical about it as you are is not...Besides, why take a Sternguard squad if you only want to sit in the rhino all the time, a tactical squad does what you suggest just as good. Automatically Appended Next Post: As for the list, it seems ok but I would consider dropping the sternguard for a third dread. They seem a little lonely... Automatically Appended Next Post: I would alson consider Vindicators, with their range the should suit your style of play pretty nicely.

Yes I know but it's also useful for blasting units when it's not safe to get out - btw where did you get 32" from? I get 12" movement 2" bail out 12" fire which is 26".
You bail out with the Sternguard when it's safe to do so, but in the mean time you can still fire some small amount of fire power from the hatch - useful for those drive up melta shots.
