Quick noobie question, can a skaven character join a weapon team?

Take a look at the misfire chart on any of those teams, and then ask yourself why would you want to?

And if the point is to make the ratling gun's bullets flaming by having a BSB w/ eternal flame hang out with him, recall that magical attaks cannot be made flaming, so it doesn't work anyway.

...that sounds like someone wanted to do something really weird and funny. 80 points to turn a Ratling Gun into a Warpling Gunfire Thrower? That seems like it is never worth it ever.

Cept the flaming banner only works on non magic weapons, so it couldnt make the ratling gun flaming.

Hey, for 15 points, you can put an engineer in them, and not only get a 4+ ward for being the parent unit, but that useless guy will take half the hits (who will transfer them to the parent unit with his 4+ look out sir!)

That's not a bad deal for protecting a weapon team, Just Engineer It!

He will only transfer the hit via LoS if its a template, also the template will still hit the weapon team.

The 4+ ward is only for the weapon team, he isnt the weapon team, so would not get it.

Let me double check the rule...

Not true. Page 97. "If a character is hit by a shooting attack of any kind..." and it even specifies Ballistic skill based shooting.
But, the character is not allowed a look at roll at all, because he is neither:
1) In a unit with 5 or more rank and file (2+ look out from templates, and not hit at all from normal shooting)
2) All alone and near a unit of 5 or more rank and file (4+ look out from all ranged attacks).

Because he's joined the weapon team, he doesn't get a look out at all. Which is very interesting. I've seen people attach mounted heroes to infantry units and then claim a 4+ look out for being near a cav unit.

Ok, so for 15 points, the engineer takes half of all incoming shooting, and the weapon team gets the 4+ ward. (I wasn't implying the engineer got the 4+ ward, I thought he got the 4+ look out, which he does not).

That might not be a bad idea...except the Team still only has one wound, so four arrows that find their mark is still enough. Mathematically, it's about the same as giving the Team another wound.

Normally, I am absolutely against this sort of odd-ball rule-stacking (like the dwarfpedo, or the slave conga line), but this is almost legit. It kind of makes sense, having the Engineer hang with the team, like he shouts at them and they do better or something.

As a quick aside from the main topic, does anyone think this idea is stretching the rules too much, or does it fit into the spirit of the game?
